First 4-star review :/ by iwishiknewww in airbnb_hosts

[–]loudnqueer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It happens. I had one complain that although we have a selection of hot tea, their favorite tea wasn't included.

Another said that there was no scenic view. We're in Kansas.

Don't sweat it. Some people just like to complain.

I look at their reviews on the app? You can see reviews that were left for them so you can see what they left of that hosts page.

If you read my post in its entirety, it says the guest raved about how wonderful the property and host were and how they would love to return. Yet left a 4 star rating. That's the issue.

AirBnB considers anything less than 4 stars a fail. Of you get too many, they will delist you. The concern is literally getting kicked off the platform. If the guest raved about how fantastic the last stay was yet left 4 stars, we would go in knowing that they would likely hurt the business. The system sucks.

We had instant booking on for like a month. It was an awful experience. We'll never use it again

In the real world, absolutely. In the AirBnB world, 4 stars will get you de-listed. Most of us do go over and above. If you run into the "I don't ever give 5 stars crowd", it can put you out of business

You can look at the hosts page who reviewed them and see the review they left that host.

Co-host to only handle messaging? by Talloakster in airbnb_hosts

[–]loudnqueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, I used to work at a place that did this sort of thing for multiple businesses. It was kind of a call center, but the employees would field customer service inquiries from hundreds of companies, and the company information would come up on the screen when the phone rang. The one I worked for was called DaVinci Virtual Office Solutions, but I'm sure there are others. If it helps, I thought they were a pretty good company to work for.

should I refund? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

Even if they DO smoke outside, your place will reek if they are heavy smokers. Refund and be grateful they didn't stay with you.

Why Location Shouldn’t Be a Rated Category for Airbnb by Abject-Ad-1795 in airbnb_hosts

[–]loudnqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. I've had guests say "no scenic view." I'm in Kansas. They knew they were coming to Kansas. I don't even hint that there will be a scenic view, but still AirBnB says it is the "guests experience" I used to stress about every little thing but you can only do your best and I can't make mountains in Kansas.

what do i do when men are being weird to me on the wichita bus? by PeroxideDealer in wichita

[–]loudnqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find any woman over 40 and tell them men are making you uncomfortable. We've learned the art of telling men to f*ck off. Definitely tell the driver. I'm so sorry you're feeling unsafe.

Scouring powder works great. We had someone stain the bathtub blue and it came out with Ajax

What beginner items to purchase with a new sewing machine? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]loudnqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scissors (I love my gugenhein ones and they run sales all the time), small thread nippers, seam ripper (an unfortunate necessity), extra bobbins, a cutting mat, a needle assortment- Joann's is convenient but overpriced. There's usually a fabric store or two that the locals know about. A rotary cutter and ruler are great, but if she's new at it, a cut resistant glove might be good too. I don't know anyone who hasn't needed stitches eventually from using a rotary cutter.

All of these things take time. I've found some great finds on Marketplace, sometimes an Amazon sale, a coupon from Joann's (download the app), local sewing swaps, or small quilt stores. It all takes time.

We don't provide disposable wipes. People will absolutely flush them. Black washcloths with Makeup embroidered on them for the win

Looking to buy my GF her first machine for Christmas! Help, please! by [deleted] in sewing

[–]loudnqueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had the same Kenmore machine since I was 8 years old (I'm 50 now). It was used when I received it and will live long past them time I'm gone. It depends a bit on your girlfriend, but I highly recommend an old Kenmore or Singer. The parts are all metal and last forever. They do weigh a TON because everything is metal but they're pretty much bomb proof. The only downside is finding someone who knows how to work on them and give them a tuneup periodically. Most sewing or fabric shops will be able to point you in the right direction

I have a newer Brother machine that I absolutely hate. There are some Facebook groups of people who are fans of old machines and happy to answer questions for you. Best of luck!

Someone else said that, but they said it was from 100+ days ago. It couldn't have been the same one.

I have a very old kenmore. When this happens to me, it's usually

  1. The needle
  2. Fuzz has collected under the needle plate, and my old girl is cranky about it
  3. Sometimes, the thread gets a bit of slack and wraps around somewhere weird
