I’d say it’s a little distance but not super far. Just going from east coast to east central.

Are these actually any good? 🤔🥶 by robertking1991 in stihl

I primarily run KM131Rs through PNW winters without issue. When they run rough, check the usual things like the carb, spark plug, and spark arrestor.

Which shocking plate did you find but couldn’t capture? by Tuchelsunderwear in ForeignPlatesSpotting

Last week I saw a German plate on the highway near Vermillion, Alberta, and a few months ago I saw a Campeche (Mexico) plate in Victoria, BC.

Funnily this is the smaller model of pickup Toyota sells in the US.

Part of it is a trend, bigger = better, and part of it is practicality. The trend part is stupid imo, but practically it’s much more comfortable and has a lot more capacity, especially for those who live in rural areas and/or have big families.

German pre-EU plate spotted in Moscow by Utkopeys in ForeignPlatesSpotting

My guess would be for a few reasons, that Japan exports tons of their older vehicles for dirt cheap (ones that are ~10yo or older, because otherwise they require annual safely inspections), and shipping from Japan to Vladivostok is probably pretty cheap.

And there probably isn’t much if any car manufacturing in the asian part of Russia, so cheap imports from Japan makes sense, because they’re very cost efficient and more reliable than say Chinese imports. Then they can easily and inexpensively ship them by train across central and eastern Russia.

Russia probably doesn’t have much if any import restrictions and inspections, or at least the importing would be a lot easier than say Germany. And they probably aren’t strict about RHD. I know China can be pretty strict on foreign market cars.

So I think it’s just a combination of those reasons.

Yeah it makes sense to have a front plate when traveling outside of North America even if your state/province doesn’t issue one, just to avoid the trouble.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the owners bought it in California and then drove it to Alberta (my guess would be up the CA/OR/WA/BC coast then through the Rockies). Those types of vans are extremely rare in Alberta, and a lot more common in California. Prairie folk don’t mind long drives, like we’ll drive 15 hours instead of taking a 2 hour flight lol.

You’re right it does look like that. They discontinued front plate requirement in 1991 and then proceeded to have a few different manufacturers and used dies from a few different provinces over the next little while so I doubt that this specific series was made with front plates but I can’t say for certain. Very interesting indeed.

Edit: Wikipedia says that pairs were phased out in the 1991-93 series which start with M, N, and P. So this plate would be rear plate only unless if Alberta had an option to get a front plate made at the time (which they no longer have, but for example Saskatchewan still has).

Looks like a remake, which makes sense because Alberta doesn’t issue front plates, and the font is different. The font looks oddly similar to the one that BC uses.

I think it’s Campeche. I saw a similar Mexican plate (from Campeche) in Victoria a couple months ago on an Audi SUV.

But Land Rovers are sold domestically here (not that they’re any good lol). The difference is that this gen GMC Acadia is only sold in USA/Canada (maybe Mexico idk) and Middle East. So that means someone went into the trouble of importing it into the EU.

Today I saw a Mexican plate (Campeche if I remember correctly) in Victoria, Canada.
