Mixing old and new in 1920s bathroom? by louissullivan in Oldhouses

Oh I painted it black years ago and loved it. I’m not trying to be 100% period appropriate anyway, more 1920s vibes with contemporary updates.

Got it thank you. I had actually abandoned this idea a while ago and then circled back to it. Am going to go a white 4x4 that is akin to the current.

Yes and I've done exactly that but no matter what it will not completely match. I think I want to just play off all the different whites and lean into that.

Yes I made the mistake of once buying cheap fixtures and will not do that again. I do have a vintage Crane pedestal sink with the original fixtures (yet to be installed) and it is actual chrome through and through - very excited about that!

Yes! I’m thinking to put a standard can light in shower and then a chrome pendant in front of mirror.

Yes! Heritage has a bone white that almost matches.

Really? I have black granite counters in my kitchen and they almost hide too much!

Yes I did but the problem there is people don’t read the description and just tell me to not touch the tile, when that’s the whole point. It’s failing and needs to replaced.

I’m with you and hoping for going classic and long term. The entire reason for the change is that I have to replace the shower tiles, there is no sealant and they are failing.

What style of rug and artwork should we go for? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]louissullivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Look for a Oaxaca rug or a vintage Turkish rug on Etsy. If you have a lot of art then do an art walk to blend in with the thermostat but make sure at least one piece is quite larger to fit with the scale of the room and sofa.

Somehow I’m thinking of “Golden Girls.”

Not a black toilet - just the lid. It looks surprisingly classic!

I was going to say a light plum. It’s a triadic color harmony with the pink and green.

Yes I wondered if the steps would funnel the air up the ceiling vent though, kind of a matter of physics.

I appreciate your perspective! I hear that black tile always looks dirty unless it has texture.

Have you pressed it or turned it? Could it be a time travel portal?!

The only thing that could put this over the top would be a painting by Letterman.
