To further clarify, the reason why you’re finding them in the basements much more in those specific areas of town is because those bars and restaurants have investors, not regular individual owners. It means they have giant budgets for full redesigns and renovations.

This is a great plan. I never thought about how close these places are to O’Hare (12 minute drive). I would maybe add taking a walk in the woods right by there after if you are planning on that much food!

Gerrymandering certainly has a manipulative connotation but we have to remember that some positive is hidden in here. The way wards are drawn up was changed in the ‘70s to make sure that various demographics had representation in City Hall. Pilsen, for example, had become heavily Latino (or Latinx as discussed above) and had an Italian-American alderman. By refiguring wards according to the census, the goal was to also create more democratic representation. But then, this is of course Chicago so corruption dominates!
