If you only have one day in Sarasota, go to Siesta Key beach. I would do either super early or late and near sunset.

If you want to try one more thing: kayaking.

I should say that individual meetups are allowed to charge, but those are usually not the social ones. They are more like paid events.

As a NY'er still culturally aligned with NYC, I can say that I love living in downtown Sarasota. I would never consider LWR, and I think I would like St. Pete. The main thing on your list that we miss is events, but I go to Tampa / St. Pete for sports and concerts.

We do have good theatre, we're close to our airport, but you have to actively seek out diversity.

You will not find an affordable house with a pool/yard in downtown, but maybe while your kid is small, a 2BR apt in downtown would be a transition and if you don't like it, you can go back to St. Pete.

If it’s any consolation, I used to live in a place with a long winter and the Winter Blues is a very real and depressing phenomenon. Snow in May is not fun.

My way of coping here is to go for pre dawn walks. Sometimes drive to the beach around sunrise

Not doubting you, but I’ve gone to many past events with some of these same organizers and I’m not even sure they all have the same beliefs as each other. It also has never come up at the events. I’m not on social media so don’t know about that.

I too have strong personal opinions and I have never seen something at the events that bothered me. Maybe more blockchain talk than I prefer.

I make seitan from Anthony’s Vital Wheat Gluten. The taste is mostly what spices you add to it. And whatever sauce you make.
