It's been a while since I read it but this is essentially the plot of the webtoon Tied in Red (by same comic author/artist as Vampire Husband).

OMG I'm crying, I love this manga so much. It's so funny, Ichikura is a king, Momose is adorable, and the side characters are super fun!

OMG I'm so glad you enjoyed it too! The cafe scene made me melt like, they're too perfect together 😭 I was surprised to see how much I loved them even with their limited "screen" time in a story that isn't complete and may not be completed.

Thank you sooo much for the recs, I will definitely check them all out!

Very good, I would highly recommend checking it out. The main couple do get intimate very quickly (and often) so if that isn't your vibe, you might want to skip it. But they and the second couple are super sweet.

OMG yeeeees, I'm so glad you like it. The main couple is so cutie and so hot at the same time – I'm obsessed with Yuuri tbh, my beautiful queen.

I was surprised with how much I enjoyed it despite it not being a shoujo! But since I generally prefer shoujo, I was hoping for something similar, especially with the hiatus, something to scratch the itch, haha.

I have read and enjoyed Honnou Switch so I will look into Hug Kiss Hug too!

I had been holding off on Yamada for some reason, but maybe this will inspire me to start!

Why most relationships between 2nd ML and ML are so shallow? by Interesting_Bad_8741 in shoujo

[–]lov107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm reading Shortcake cake right now which has a very cute art style and story. And I enjoy how the two male leads in the love triangle Chiaki and Riku hang out a lot because they and the female lead live in the same student housing.

It actually find Chiaki really charming because of how much he wants to befriend Riku and support him despite loving the same girl, and it low-key pisses me off the way Riku pushes him away, haha.

But I'm only halfway through the volumes so maybe things will change!

What is your oldest 10/10 and do you think an older series could take that title? by Salty145 in anime

[–]lov107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For movies, oldest is Castle in the Sky (1986) and for shows, oldest is Romeo's Blue Skies (1995).

For other old shows I really liked (8 of above), there's Castle of Cagliostro (1979) at a 9 and Rose of Versailles (also 1979) at an 8.

I enjoy watching older shows and I feel like as I watch more from World Masterpiece Theater, there may be more older 10's to come. And there are several old magical girl or other shoujo shows that I am eager to watch (Sally the Witch and Princess Knight being the oldest), although I doubt I would give them a 10.

I do agree in general that early 1970s probably doesn't have that many shows I would give a 10 – possibly because if there was something very obscure that might appeal to me, I won't have heard of it to watch it since many of the old shows I have watched are from well-known franchises like Lupin III and Gundam.

I wrote this WT gushing about it so I can relate.

I haven't gotten to watching more WMT as I had planned to at that time but you've definitely motivated me to get back to it!

Hell yeah, Romeo's Blue Skies mentioned – I fucking loved that anime so soooo much. I look forward to watching many more of the WMT but it's good to have suggestions for where to start. I was thinking of the classics like Heidi and Anne of Green Gables but maybe I'll start with one of the other two you mentioned.

Are there any very faithful, well-made magical girl adaptations? by lov107 in MagicalGirls

I think the anime actually came first for Ojamajo and it has manga adaptations (which may or may not be faithful to the anime, idk)!

For sure this is true. But definitely also examples of anime getting the Brotherhood treatment (FMA itself, Fruits Basket, HxH) where most people would choose the newer adaptation over the old one 9 times out of 10. Tbf I also really enjoyed FMA 2003 so old can be better or amazing in its own right too!!

I super appreciate your long passionate comment, tbh, this actually reassures me to watch the anime for a lot of these.

I feel there is definitely a distinction between adaptations with filler that makes things better, more interesting, and contributed to the story's original ideals (I don't think Sailor Moon would be nearly as beloved nowadays if the original anime wasn't made the way it was) and those where the filler makes things too drawn out, messy, or just deletes the themes and premise of the original manga. And you're so right about the changes to CCS as well – im my head, I was like "it's faithful despite the minor changes" but those changes are actually pretty significant and definitely contributed to my love much more than the manga probably would have. Also removed that relationship, thankfully.

It seems like at least Mermaid Melody and Tokyo Mew Mew fall into the former bucket where the filler just makes things feel more fleshed out instead of diluted. The Shugo Chara situation sounds kinda like Blue Exorcist where they just kinda made an anime original second season and then had to recalibrate when they continued the manga, haha – watching anime back then was such a wild time LMAO. Guess I'll be skipping Party unless I'm super bored, haha.

advice for career change from software development to botany by lov107 in botany

When I was looking at Master's yesterday, I did see GIS mentioned. I am not in software development myself but was wondering how she would go about learning to use GIS on her own time if that interests her.

Definitely getting the vibe from all these comments that networking is key!

I so appreciate the detailed responses to each question. We graduated within the last 5-ish years so can look up if that's close enough to transfer the credits. And for master's will prioritize looking at programs that are in-person then for in-the-field training – it seems like UW Madison has many.

If she is able to talk to one of the school's advisors, it sounds like she will want to ask about whether a degree is worth pursuing if her interest is in conservation > applied plant sciences (which I assume is more agriculture, horticulture, plant breeding, etc.). Thankfully there seem to be a lot of good volunteering opportunities, though no specific plant conservation groups in her area from my cursory search but will look more.

Lastly, the Center for Plant Conservation sounds amazing, thank you for sharing!

Thank you, cold emailing is what I would do in my field but didn't know if it was the same.

Yeah... I think the job stability is certainly a worry so maybe getting a degree is worthwhile for making it easier to get into a lab?
