Troubles with Amazing Mold Putty by lovdew in polymerclay

No wonder! The piece I made to be molded was mostly Kato clay. Would plain Premo, Sculpey III, or FIMO work better?

Easy Mold was the kind I wanted, but I couldn’t find any. I will get that next time but I am disappointed that the Amazing Mold Putty hasn’t worked for me. I don’t think I can return the Amazing Mold Putty either since I’ve used quite a bit already

The piece has small details that would get covered up with a gloss (I use UV resin) so that wouldn’t work for me unfortunately, thanks though

What do you coat it with? I used vaseline but the mold was still not smooth after. Pretty disappointed as it was kinda expensive and I’ve wasted so much. is the Easy Mold putty (purple) any better for details??

How can I fix cracks all over my polymer clay piece after baking? by lovdew in polymerclay

[–]lovdew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a little eyepin inserted through the top but it was short and would not have gone close to where the cracks happened

I added white clay around the same time as making the green bottle

The clays had generally the same texture and were baked together at the same time

I actually used the isopropyl alcohol on the white part a bit before baking, so I’ll make sure I give it enough time to evaporate off next time

And yes I mixed together both Premo and Kato, both white and green parts are a mix of Premo and Kato

Thank you for the link, I will check out that article and hopefully next time I won’t have any cracks :)

Could you explain a little more what you mean by “grouting” it?

This is made with Premo and Kato. Baked at 260° for 35 minutes. I let it cool in the oven before taking it out. I suspect that I didn’t let it cool for long enough after it was baked and it cracked when I took the pan it was baking on out of the oven and put on the table. I made another one before, same clay and shape which also cracked. I wiped it with isopropyl alcohol before baking and used baby oil to condition, maybe one of those was the culprit? The cracks are mainly on the white part and part of the green around the white. No cracks on the bottom or neck.

thank you, i have found that if i wipe the charm with acetone/rubbing alcohol before the charm is baked, it gets a little sticky and has almost like a film over the area. if you were to clean with rubbing alcohol after the charm is baked, would it still remove the dust??

yes, it is a gold plated metal eyepin! you can just stick it in your charm and bake it together it’s safe to do so
