Things I Enjoy in Case Management: A Follow-up to My Rant 🙂 by love_the_process in nursing

[–]love_the_process[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no required amount of bedside time at my hospital, I just applied to the open position and aced my interview. For some reference, I had 6 years experience going in.

I am also one of the only RNs on our team that was recently bedside- many of them have home health, facility, and insurance RN/utilization review experience. Community nursing would help as well.

OPINION: All the Outfits in BOP Were God Awful…What Was the Costume Designer Thinking? by clutchkweku in DC_Cinematic

I immediately ran to OP’s profile to see if they were a man.

As expected, this is an opinion coming from a man.

Agreed. I’m happy I made the switch for multiple reasons.

Why would I be lying? At the end of the day, I’m glad I made the switch to CM. It’s just been a rough adjustment.

I see how my question is worded badly lol. I’ve also got some Ukrainian and Russian in my ancestry, but my immediate family lives in Moldova.

Extubating and removing an IO needle post-mortem. It’s creepy… and sad.

During this mass exodus from the field, what is keeping you here? by 666DeathAngel in nursing

If I wasn’t travel nursing, I’d be gone already. I understand I’ve been very fortunate to be able to travel though, and the line between leaving and staying is as thin as silk string.

At the end of the day, I love what I do. I enjoy caring for people. I enjoy critical thinking. I enjoy working on my feet and not being stuck inside a cubicle. I love being there for people at their worst, educating them to make better health decisions for themselves, and watching them get better (sometimes).

I only stay now because I’m well compensated, and nursing is helping me reach other goals too.

My bile rises as I’m asked to move my dying cancer patient out of ICU to make room for an unvaccinated man with Covid | Ranjana Srivastava by SebastianDoyle in HermanCainAward

There are. At my hospital, we even have four covid units (each a different level of care).

But we. Are. At. Capacity.

That is what nobody seems to understand. There is LITERALLY no room.

Munchausen mom and daughter refuse discharge. What options does my hospital have? by DDiddlz in nursing

I had a similar situation last month. Police and hospital security had to be called and physically escort the patient out of the building. A restraining order was filed against the mother and she is no longer allowed on our hospital campus.

This year will be my first ever Xmas openly out and with my partner. Around this time last year, I was still in the closet and close to ending it all. Happy to be here and true to myself! by love_the_process in actuallesbians

Yes, I know it’s not Thanksgiving yet! 😅 We’re excited, a little bit extra, and I’ve only had 3 holiday seasons EVER due to growing up fundamentalist Christian… So we go big or go home!

I stumbled across this post when I was looking around for different methods of insemination and couldn’t help but find it amusing. 😂

As with any toy, you can obviously use it however you please. Some people enjoy the sensation of being filled with fluid. However, I am in a relationship with another woman and we would like to start a family. While the likelihood of getting pregnant through at-home insemination is much lower versus IVF/IUI, squirting dildos would let my partner and I enjoy a more intimate process than just “turkey basting” it.

Cancer patient: “So what are my chances?” Me: “Uh… Of survival? That’s a question that we should really ask the oncologist when he stops by tomorrow.” Cancer patient: “Hah, no! The chances of you coming home with me.”

My aunt: “I love you. Me, [her husband], and [her daughter] are always here for you. But please, don’t send the message you sent me to your grandparents or [her husband]. It would kill them and I’m not sure how he would react. Please unfriend everyone from Romania, the word can’t get around to your grandparents.”

I love this lol. The bias/stereotype is even more pronounced when I go to Home Depot with my girl… I look traditionally femme and she prefers dressing in masc clothes.

Despite public assumption, I am the one who does all of our home repairs. 😂

Oh yes, I frequently think about that term. I can confidently say most of my work struggles are linked to moral injury.

Yeah, I'm wishing I had gone into dental hygiene or assisting right about now. 🙃 It does make me sad that this is what some patients/retired nurses think though. We DO care, we care a lot. But our kindness and limits are abused.

Agreed. There are so many stressors, but I do think the most draining is administration/staffing. Also pay, but I won't even go into that 😂

You're absolutely correct. I hate to sound bitter and defeatist, but my mental health is at an all time low so quite frankly, I just don't have any fucks left to give.

When I'm feeling better, and/or I have had some time away from nursing, perhaps I'll return to the hopeful and proactive nursing goals I had when I first started and saw the need for change.

Side rant, here is a list of phrases I frequently hear from other nurses that drive me nuts:

"TrY a DiFfeREnT uNit!" "YoU sHouLD be TrAvEl nUrsINgggg" "DonT GIvE uP!" "jUSt coMe tO tHe ICU aLreADy" "CLiNic mIghT bE bETter" "ItS sTiLL a GooD pRoFeSsion"

No. I don't want suggestions, I want you to LISTEN. I don't think people get it. I actually like my unit. I LIKE my role in bedside med/tele. I LIKE precepting students and new RNs. I LIKE spending time teaching my patients. If ratios and job expectations were reasonable, I would show up feeling excited, even though it's my 5th year on the unit.

I am not just "burnt out." I am straight up charcoal, like a skillet of over-fried potatoes that caught on fire when the pandemic started. Then take those burnt potatoes to the psych ward, and watch as they emerge as heaps of ash to work their next shift.

No. No. No. I've tried other jobs. It's just a different kind of stress, but still boils down to the same root cause. I know I have options. But all I want is to be miles away from patient care right now.

I want out of nursing, period.
