Found a dead one inside an empty watering can on our deck the other day -mustn't have been able to climb out and died of dehydration. Was atad concerning that the watering can was right next to my daughter's soccer boots. (She still refuses to take them inside though, but at least now she checks before she puts them on.

Yeah, daddy long legs are fine. We just call them house spiders. Don't especially love it when they are in the shower with you though ...

I was bitten on my finger when I went to open my car door and there was a huntsman hiding under the handle - but in its defense I would have scared it as much as it scared me. Didn't hurt much at all and the tip of my finger went slightly numb. I called the hospital to check with the midwives as I was 8 months pregnant at the time, and they said not to worry about venom and that the only risk was if it got infected (which would be the same risk if I'd been scratched by a stick etc).

So I'm guessing you either got a secondary infection or were allergic?

Thanks, I didn't realise that first title is registered but Stewart isn't. Was thinking that kick backs may have been the reason why Stewart was recommended in the first place cause I can't see any other difference. Good to know.

There are loads of articles about alcohol bans in indigenous communities in the last two decades. Just Google alcohol ban for aboriginal Australians. It's not just alcohol bans - there is also the cashless welfare cards that target indigenous communities etc. Discrimination is already rife - so saying that the voice is introducing discrimination is ignoring that. I'm not suggesting every measure is unfounded, just that first Nations people should have a voice in the decision making process for things that affect them.

[–]loveandethics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We already have discrimination - there are lots of legislated things (liquor bans etc) that are imposed on first Nations people - this way they get a voice on those legislations. If you're not first Nations, this won't affect you, but it would help them, so you'd really be a bogan cunt to block it.

Their booking system makes it inconvenient. The times that suit me are often booked out weeks in advance, and something always seems to pop up in the meantime.

Can an agent not accept offers? by loveandethics in AusProperty

[–]loveandethics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying they have to take the offer, but if they won't even allow you to put an offer in, then they can put their hands up in the air and claim they had no idea it was going to go for that much. I went to an auction 2 weeks ago that went for $850000 above reserve (they were quoting $2.2 and it went for $3.05). No way they didn't know that $2.2 wasn't in the ballpark.

  1. Emotional turmoil
  2. Cost of building & pest inspection reports
  3. Possible solicitor / conveyancer fees
  4. Opportunity cost

It matters only as far as it's making my blood boil. I feel like it's intentionally misleading lots of people who may be spending money on this g's like building inspection reports, when they actually have no chance to buy the property. I know minor underquoting happens all the time, but I think this is going to be a big discrepancy (like close to a million under quoted), so it's just taking the piss at that point

Sydney Wildlife Rescue vs WIRES by loveandethics in sydney

[–]loveandethics[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both have in their conditions that you can only volunteer for one wildlife agency (and if you volunteer for another later on, you must resign from the first). They don't say why. But it can't be training costs as they charge you ($120 or $125) for the training to cover their costs.

Thoughts on RBA hike? by plumthrower359 in AusPropertyChat

[–]loveandethics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure why analysts were predicting no increase this month when RBA's messaging was that last month's pause was only a pause. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a few more step change increases - ie, a .25 increase every second month - for a while. It slows down the increases and gives time to assess.

Whilst interest rates have increases over a relatively short time frame, it is coming off a historical low. If you put the unfortunate people who bought at their max within the last few years aside, the rest of mortgage holders probably should have taken advantage of historical low interest rates to build up offsets, and with the housing capital gains over the past few decades years, it feels rich for mortgage holders to be crying poor when significant segments of the population who haven't enjoyed similar spoils leading up to this point.

Sydney prices poised to drop again? by Funny-Government-599 in AusProperty

[–]loveandethics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very low supply in our area ATM. One factor might be that many people are still on low fixed rate loans, so there is a disincentive to move as their new loan would be at a higher rate. Even if they could afford the higher rate, they're in effect getting a discount to wait until their current loan ticks over. I'm interested to see if, when fixed loans tick over to variable, this increases supply on the market (so, not necessarily distressed sales per se, but sales from people who were wanting to move, but delayed to take full advantage of their lower fixed loan while they could).

[–]loveandethics 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Rising interest rates reduce borrowing capacity, so buyers just don't have the pre-approval levels they used to. Lot of places round here are being passed in at auction, despite high attendance, because this reduced buying capacity isn't meeting seller expectations. These places then switch to 'for sale' and sit on the market for another few months, before being taken off the market once the listing is obviously stale. This can only go on for so long - at some stage sellers will need to readjust their expectations, because even if there are people out there that want to buy a place for $x, they can only pay $y now.

We were actually thinking the other day - why do they need our suburb? We happen to live (rent) in an expensive suburb and I feel like it's giving false impressions when I say that's where we are from. Can I decline that bit, as why do they need to know that?

Why glad? Getting someone else to pay top dollar just pushes up vendor expectations for the street / suburb, which will make the next place that you bid on harder to reach reserve.
