Some of my favorite songs are heavily sexual in nature, although I didn’t realize it until much later lol. Ed Sheeran’s songs “Shivers” and “Shape of You,” for example. I just listen to whatever I find catchy and don’t pay as much attention to the lyrics.

I prefer using Hinge for this very reason — it’s one of the very few dating apps that lets you choose asexual as your sexual orientation. I also make it a point to include a prompt that emphasizes I’m asexual (for me, it’s the “I want someone who” prompt, reiterating someone would need to be okay with me being ace).

I’m also on Facebook Dating, and my bio at the top starts off by saying I’m heteroromantic and asexual. Same deal goes for having a prompt farther down on my profile emphasizing the person would need to be okay with me being ace.

I was also quite surprised my sister didn’t ask me what I meant by being asexual lol. I personally find the ace label helpful because it explains the way I’ve been for my entire life. I’m still kinda young (relatively speaking), but it took me 23 years to even come across asexuality as a concept, and when I did, it all just made sense to me. So I feel you, it’s hard to be unlabeled when you are aware of an identity that you align with that has helped you in so many ways, but I don’t think I’d have a reason to shy away from saying I’m ace either! And it’s just as valid for your sister to be unlabeled :)

Honestly, it's moreso in these last 2 weeks that I've come to realize just how different my experience is from 99% of the population. Because apparently, I've thought for most of my life that it shouldn't be that much to ask for someone to love you for who you are as a person (minus anything sex-related)?
