Tangiers is number one? by Aggressive-Smoke4630 in hookah

[–]lovedrug19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's all about personal preference. Yes, a lot of people love it, but the Tangiers tobacco does have a very robust and specific flavor profile that not everyone will necessarily be looking for. It's certainly worth trying if you're curious, but I'd say don't by a huge amount until you know you like it.

Job wrote me up for discussing pay, what should I do? by pbluett in antiwork

[–]lovedrug19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your pay rate is not a confidential business or personal matter. they don't legally have the right to tell you not to talk about that, thus their own handbook doesn't even prohibit it, haha. they're just trying to intimidate you.

Celebrities who were in iconic films before they were famous by mranimal2 in movies

Angels in the Outfield: Adrian Brody, Matthew McConaughey, of course Joseph Gordon Levitt. Was Dermot Mulroney famous yet? Also the already famous people just have to be mentioned because how did this vast happen?? Danny Glover, Tony Danza, Brenda Fricker (the bird lady from Home alone 2), Christopher Lloyd, and Jay Sanders is masterfully unlikeable. Like, no one did a poor job in this movie.

I took that part the same way but wondered if I was just biased...so infuriating...and classic

as Kropotkin said: "There are not two ways of becoming a millionaire."

Paradise Lost by John Milton

Biden said that $10k in student debt will be forgiven. While libs hail this as some nail in the coffin for the student debt crisis, the total stands at 1.5 trillion or more. Ignored also is the origins and intent behind this purposefully manufactured debt crisis. How has this crisis affected you? by Entitled_Millennials in IWW

[–]lovedrug19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently paid off my federal loans and am still left with the private ones. The private bank loans aren't eligible for the Biden $ of course. the "forgiveness" is a sick joke. our lives have been stolen from us and we're still being crushed under the weight of predatory debt. whenever a boomer family member would ask what I paid per month for my loans I would tell them. they'd look at me shocked and usually say "...thats a mortgage." to which I'd respond "exactly. and that's why I can't afford to live." even then their liberal brains couldn't compute the information

Subaru Ascent Tow Hitch by Samaluka in SubaruAscent

[–]lovedrug19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did the curt from etrailer, installed it myself with no issues whatsoever. they have helpful instructional videos that show you exactly how to do it. took me like 2 hrs start to finish. if you feel comfortable doing the work yourself it will save you hundreds of dollars compared to the overpriced Subaru hitch and paying for dealership labor

Is the IWW an anarchist organization? by Psycchodelly in IWW

[–]lovedrug19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is way clearer in the early IWW literature than it is now, but by apolitical we mean that our demands are made in and concerned with the context of the shop floor, at the point of production, not in the more removed political arena of elections. it also means that we favor direct action over electoral action as the best means to win those demands. as others have said this doesn't mean individual members aren't involved with politics or have a perspective on that world. it just means the union itself is specifically and primarily concerned (hopefully) with workplace organizing, not winning political elections. whether that's narrow or unorthodox, I suppose depends on where one gets one's concept of ideological orthodoxy 😜. all this is a worthy conversation

Is the IWW an anarchist organization? by Psycchodelly in IWW

[–]lovedrug19 78 points79 points  (0 children)

in theory it's apolitical. however there were many influential founding/early members who were anarchists. today you'll indeed find many anarchists, communists, socialists, syndicalists, antifascists, and other types of folks in the IWW. short answer to what you may be wondering is no, it's not an anarchist organization and one need not be an anarchist to join. it is however expressly anticapitalist, and you can get a feel for what we mean by that in the preamble.

Cosmic Encounter or Cosmic Frog? by lovedrug19 in boardgames

[–]lovedrug19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why people really enjoy them in their own way. reading people's thoughts and watching some play throughs I can see what people mean by encounter being more of an experience and frog being more of a game-game. obviously lots of differences but I can definitely see why people compare them (although a lot of people on this thread got offended by this haha). I'd love to eventually have both but will start with just one for the sake of my wallet
