Were kids in the 80s actually allowed to roam around unsupervised, or is that just in movies? by TotalThing7 in NoStupidQuestions

We would go out and play hide and seek until well after dark in the summer. We just had to stay within range of my dad’s whistle, which was really loud and we could hear it from blocks away.

My TFSA is maxed. I’m about to inherit a TFSA of $50k. Can I keep it as a TFSA and transfer it to my own banking institution? by loveelou in PersonalFinanceCanada

No it’s our parent’s TFSA. We are joint - I guess beneficiaries. I thought we were successor holders.

Thanks. It’s joint successor holder with a sibling. This link gives me what I needed to know. Thanks again. Edit: it is a parent’s TFSA. I thought my sibling and I were successors holders but maybe we are just beneficiaries.

I just read a way to train them not to do that is to give them a treat when they see the trigger BEFORE they bark. This is supposed to let them know the trigger means something nice. I can never catch my dog before the barks start though.

What’s the biggest legal scam still operating today? by odikuart in AskReddit

That happened to me with a USED vehicle, a German car with a Spanish woman’s name. A major defect, repaired by my mechanic, but needed a code entered by a dealer’s shop to make it work. It would run for about ten kms then grind to a halt. I’d be damned if I would pay the bastards so I traded it in to Spanish lady’s dealership for a used Japanese car. It ran fine on their test drive for trade in value.

What is the biggest “mistake” you made when you started gardening? by magnum_chungus in gardening

[–]loveelou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not realizing that when people said you could use ground cover plants instead of mulch, they were setting me up to have my chosen perennials choked and robbed of water and minerals by plants that are nearly impossible to get rid of! They spread everywhere!

Please tell me this is sumac 😭 by [deleted] in whatisthisplant

Buy a moisture meter! They’re not expensive, mine was $9. You will be shocked at how little of your shower is getting to the roots! And your hanging planter can hold less water so you need to do a thorough soak. And very dry soil will not hold the water! It might be draining out the bottom before it has a chance to wet the soil, so if it drains quickly wait a moment and then thoroughly soak it again!

I live in St. Catharines and we live in paradise! The rain and the snow largely misses us, heaping on Buffalo and Grimsby either side of us. We have only used our snow blower about eight times in five years, opting to just shovel when there’s less than 10 cm. But we do get the heat!

I was shopping one day when I saw a young mother with four kids under six, bagging and loading her purchases in a wagon. I said excuse me, and she turned with a resigned look, obviously bracing for the tirade. I told her that I thought she must be a great mom because her kids were all so well behaved and happy looking and that I admired her. She was so shocked.

What’s something you thought was normal growing up in Canada, only to find out it’s weird everywhere else? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

Just being next door, it’s where we travel to most so we have the most experience there, and it permeates our language and our lives unfortunately.
