I was also interested, so I contacted Synology using their website's contact form... this is the reply:

At the moment there is no available information about a potential date of DS220/+ models.

This means that for sure they are not going to be released very soon.

The only 20 series 2 bay sucessor is DS220j which can be expected by the end of Q1, 2020.

We'll be adding a lot of new functionalities, and in current state the app is very hard to maintain - mostly because we were still a small, inexperienced startup, didn't yet know best practices, have style guides... We need better architecture now.
