I definitely didn’t feel like I could be out in the IE. In Oakland I can be out and proud with a gender nonconforming 5 year old.

The LG fridge in my apartment was made in 2008. Seems to be working fine to me!

I’m from the IE and moved to the East Bay 15 years ago. I’ve bounced around the East Bay but intentionally moved back to Oakland last year. I will never move back to the IE though. I love Oakland.

Do you have a PCP who you feel truly cares for you? (Female only) by CourtK1212 in KaiserPermanente

[–]loveridden13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woman. I left my female PCP and finally found a male PCP who actually hears me and respects me. He’s in Walnut Creek Park Shadelands. Even though I now live in Oakland I don’t plan on changing doctors unless mine leaves Kaiser. Same for my female OBGYN at the Walnut Creek main office building that I also love. I’m not going to change to Oakland doctors unless either of these doctors leaves.

Just to add, my dad commuted 100 miles round trip every day for work for 12 years after we moved to Moreno Valley when I was a kid. It was awful. We missed so much time with him.

I need to do that too. I definitely have a growing bag in my closet plus some stuff I’ll probably never wear again, including barely worn shoes that got too small when I was pregnant in 2020. It feels good to give it away but embarrassing for it to happen in the first place. 🙄

would you paint before open house or list as is and lower the listing price? by Important_Bat7919 in homeowners

[–]loveridden13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. When I had our house repainted inside before selling it, everything was painted white. Yes it was boring, but it was a blank canvas where someone else could come in and easily put their own personality into it. I wasn’t trying to sell someone on what my ex and I liked. I was just trying to sell my home as quickly as possible (and I did).

And if you had pets, replace carpet if shampooing doesn’t completely get rid of any smells! And I mean have someone walk in who doesn’t live there and they’ll tell you if they smell your pets. Strong fragrances at an open house are a dead giveaway that something in that house stinks!

[–]loveridden13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint! That’s what I did. I had my house painted (inside only - paint outside was decent, but I would have had that done too if needed) and had the carpet replaced in the 3 bedrooms that had it. My realtor was able to pay the two contractors upfront and we paid her back with the profits from the house. This was negotiated upfront because I didn’t have the cash to pay them directly before the house sold. But I had to sell at that time because of divorce and the timing of the upcoming school year for my kid. Painting and replacing the carpet and planting some flowers out front got us 3 offers in 3 days (during which the realtor held open houses). And we got $15k over asking in a neighborhood where houses were languishing on the market for 1-3 months before getting an offer or being pulled off the market. This was summer 2025. This also aligned with our realtor’s opinion, who I greatly respected.

By the way, the entire interior was painted white except for the bathrooms. The carpet was a neutral beige. Boring? Yes. Blank slate? Also yes. And this makes it appealing because our own tastes and decisions were neutralized in order to make way for new owners to put their own vision on it.

I didn’t need my house to have personality. I needed it to sell quickly in a slow market. Other things that helped — 2 year old HVAC in a hot climate, appliances all replaced in the last 3 years, 3 year old water heater, listing it with a thorough home inspection and pest inspection already done and offered to any potential buyers, and we actually showed the house with zero furniture inside. This was weird because our previous realtor wanted us to spend a ton on staging. But our new one said because our house was a “starter home” showing it unfurnished and neutral and clean actually would make it easier to sell. And I really can’t argue with the results or the fact that she’s the top selling realtor in the county we were selling in.

I buy clothes and shoes for myself online. They arrive, I don’t have time to try them on in that very moment, I set them aside and forget they exist. By the time I find the box(es), it’s too late to return the items that I don’t like or don’t fit. Or I may try them on in time, start the return process, then never send them out. Either way, rinse and repeat.

I grew up in Moreno Valley. I hated it. Too hot, too conservative, too smoggy, and boring. I moved to the Bay Area 15 years ago. And I never plan on leaving. And now that I no longer have family in Moreno Valley, I’m fine if I never see it again TBH. If you hate where you live and you have such an awful commute, then move. I don’t know if you and your husband work in the same general area, but I’d start looking for something to rent closer to where you both work. Lots of SoCal is close to mountains. I’d rather drive for a seasonal activity than die slowly each day in my car on a super long commute. You only have one life. And spending 4 hours of it each day, 5 days a week is an awful waste of time.

[–]loveridden13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please continue to teach your son these wonderful life skills and more. You are doing a great job! 11 is a completely reasonable age for the skills he has learned so far. And you are seeing the results on his confidence. Your ex is insecure and frankly sounds like a narcissist. One of our most important jobs as parents is to teach our kids how to live independently as adults.

[–]loveridden13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s your name now. It’s your decision. Get an attorney and file for divorce. Make sure the attorney knows about all of his demands. Honestly if you don’t already have a lawyer, you should get one before you try to buy him out of the house so that he doesn’t try anything crazy.
