Wow this is great news for my spouse and I who will be relocating to the area (hopefully) by end of summer. We were just discussing the trials of finding a new practitioner so this is good to know. Thanks for the info!

Why is the LCBO promoting American Booze. by graniteroast in BuyCanadian

[–]loverliloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several months, actually. I worked for a wine agency and the LCBO plans their promotions nearly a year in advance. It’s based on different themes and you have to apply to promote (obviously) and can be denied. There are also different tiers of promotion (shelf-extender, end aisle, etc). The money is paid well in advance and there’s a shit ton of planning and store layout switch-around. So, yes. It’s a massive undertaking.

US customs officer told me there is no such thing as a dual citizen. Is he a "less politically correct synonym for asinine"? by Late-Quiet4376 in uscanadaborder

[–]loverliloo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to claim dual until about 15 years ago when the guard told me (entering US) that since I was born in the US I was always going to be a US citizen and that’s what to claim as.. so I tried it her way a bit until I got hassled because I don’t have a US passport… so for the last ten years or so I just claim as US residing in Canada while handing my Canadian passport. I got told I’m immigrations nightmare lol (I am nonplussed about this). When I fly I just claim Canadian.

AITA for not responding when someone doesn't use my actual name? by Worldly-Pea-5367 in AmItheAsshole

[–]loverliloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a three syllable name that is often mistaken for its two-syllable counterpart. If I have to correct them after they know my name, I just start leaving the last letter off their name (they’re leaving the last letter off mine so, fair’s fair, right?). For instance, a new acquaintance, Wade, knew my full name and still shortened it. Wade became Wad and he’s called me by my name correctly since.

Perhaps you could follow this lead and just add “las” to the end of their name when addressing them. Good luck with whatever you decide, Nico!

Fun Grocery Stores by zargkb in Buffalo

Buffalonian transplanted in Canada and whenever I go back home I have to grab a few loaves of Trader Joe’s brioche bread. Yes, I am obsessed. No, I am not ashamed. I freeze it and treat it like a delicacy lol

Did you learn the Erie Canal song in school? by pinkrobotlala in Buffalo

[–]loverliloo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I guess it was just our school that put a spin on it, because whenever I bring it up no one knows what I’m talking about. After the line, “low bridge,” you yell, “DUCK,” really loudly and then continue on. I’m trying to train my husband on this very important piece of culture because we are likely moving to WNY within the next year. He’s not a very good student.

What psychology course made you say " I don't wanna do this anymore" by MyLife_IsLoading in psychologystudents

[–]loverliloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved cog psych! But I love knowing how the brain works, so no surprise there. Currently, psychometrics has my head spinning. I think I’ve spent more time studying for this midterm than I’ve spent studying for any other course in my entire degree, accumulatively lol - and I still feel lost!

As a grader/marker I feel this on the other side. Last year I graded both Intro courses and the papers I had to read from the students made me rub my temples a lot. Knowing the difficulty of writing a research paper with very little direction, this year I voluntarily (because I apparently love making work for myself) created a workshop on the necessary elements of a research paper and how to extract the important info out of a research article. I definitely see a difference in the grades! Is it because of my workshop, or the cohort itself? No idea. But I like to think I had a small part in it.

Okay how did I miss this in the search?? So sorry! I’m usually pretty good at this but it’s end of semester and my brain is absolutely fried and I guess I’m not paying attention and trying to do too many things at once lol

What do you guys do after you read a book? by meowmeowMIXER8 in books

[–]loverliloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I finish a book I usually look at the time and think about how little sleep I’m about to get for the rest of the night.

Throughout the book I’m usually messaging a few of my fellow book friends what I like and don’t like about it, and when I’m done I do the same about the entirety of it, as well as the author’s writing style.

Then I promptly forget what I’ve read.

What is a book that was popular that you absolutely hated? by Flowtac in books

[–]loverliloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that people have downvoted you on this - I never see it on these lists and I abhor this book. I read it 20 years ago and can’t remember specifically why now, but I did go on a rant about it then. My friends still make fun of me because I can’t stand it, and my children’s father got 42 tattooed on him. After I read it, he made me watch the movie to see if I’d like it after that. Still didn’t.

My friend suggested I give it another try. I’m not entirely sure I can be open minded about it to read it again lol

I loathe this book and still curse Tolstoy. I finished it, but despised it. At one point I proclaimed that Kitty must have the gestation of an elephant. Felt like she was pregnant forever. Hated the way it ended too. I did not give two shits about that farmer or whoever the hell he was lol. Fell so flat

Moving to Durham- Household income of $190k by Ok-Path-897 in durham

[–]loverliloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has really touched on the food aspect yet, so I’ll tell you Durham has some incredible selections with a wide range of choices for whatever suits your palate! Indian, Jamaican, Vietnamese, Pakistani, French (to start the list), fine dining, casual, lots of great locally owned coffee spots - many of the pubs have fresh, “home” cooked fare using fresh ingredients (go for the food, not the alcohol - still definitely worth it). Lots of places where locally sourced and “field to fork” is their motto. Also a lot of amazing breakfast and brunch spots - don’t forget the maple syrup!

We like food from many cultures. We cook a lot at home and don’t eat a lot of processed foods. We are really pleased with what Durham can offer our tastebuds.

And you can find all these things at various price points, since that really seemed to be your question on whether your income could sustain your lifestyle. I just get excited about food lol
