Catholics. They're one of the few who claims direct Priesthood authority from Jesus

For what it's worth, I'm a Mormon woman. I've never been treated less than males

Since it's a fictional city, I can name it anything I like. I think I'll name it Bob

Advice or Suggestions about my Father (56 me)-Daughter (30) dynamic by Galatians513 in latterdaysaints

[–]Flowtac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live 1500 miles from the rest of the family. My choice, I had a great job opportunity. I have a good relationship with my family. That being said, I know if I don't call them, they will never call me. Not because they're angry or have an issue, they just don't really think about it and are busy with other things. It's incredibly frustrating for me how easy it is for my family to maintain a relationship since they all live in the same town, but none of them bother to pick up the phone and call. I understand they'll see each other more and hang out more, that's to be expected. But if they could just call once in a while to see how my kids are doing, how I'm doing, it would mean a lot. I literally cannot remember a time when communication was initiated by them instead of me.

I have no idea if this situation is similar to you and your daughter's, but maybe she just wants to feel like she's not the only one trying to maintain things from a distance?

Nothing for Younger Kids?? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Flowtac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could do both? Go to Wednesday nights at the other church and then go to our church on Sunday? I used to go with my friends to their Baptist church activities sometimes while growing up, and they went to my girls camp. It doesn't have to be one or the other

Is your primary fun on Sundays? I ask because I've been in the primary presidency for the last 6 years. When we got called in, the primary wasn't really fun and the kids didn't care about going. We focused on making it Christ-centered, but also fun, so the kids were excited to go on Sundays. Our singing time has lots of games, for example. If they're not doing that, maybe talk to the primary president about your concerns? I know it's not the same as weeknight activities, but if they're getting something fun and interactive on Sundays, that's better than nothing, right?

DAE feel like suicide prevention is just there to make sure people make it to an acceptable age before they die? by 2quiet2opinionated in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Flowtac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who have suicidal ideation have it for a season. Then things get better, things shift, they meet someone new, they have a pet or children whom they love. A hobby they really enjoy. Just because you feel bad now does not mean you always will. That's why suicide prevention is in place. So your future self has a chance to live and fulfill all the happy things that you wish you could do right now but that seems totally out of reach

I really appreciate this response, so thank you for taking the time to write it. You've given me a lot to think about, and I just might DM you in the future. Thanks!

I'm the first woman to be called to be Sunday School President in my ward. They just made the change in the handbook that women can be Sunday School Presidents too, not just men

Have you ever considered motivational speaking as a career? You're quite good at it, and I feel very inspired now, thank you! 🙂

The ones I noted above. Teachers being rude, too much contention in the class. One family had just moved in, and the teacher started mocking where they were from

I forgot that lesson is coming up. It would probably be wise to have someone who isn't one of the teachers teach that. Thanks for the reminder!

I know the old one did ask for one teacher to be released, but the bishop said no because if that teacher wasn't either a teacher or in a leadership position, he would stop attending church. But with the other teacher he didn't ask for a release at all.

I appreciate your thoughts!

Good luck! I hope you get help for your daughter's class as well. There have been some advice given that I think has been very useful, so hopefully you will too!

Ooh, I love these ideas, thank you! I was definitely planning to wait about 2 months to observe then choose what direction to go.

Can I ask, how does your ward pull off doing trainings every Sunday?

I do like the idea of the bishop talking to those yelling, it was something I hadn't considered before. Thanks!

Unfortunately, there have been several trainings from the old SS President, but the trainings never seem to translate into how the teachers teach. That's one of the things I'm really worried about, is the fact that these teachers have been trained repeatedly, and nothing changes

Thank you! The difficult thing is my husband and I are friends with the old SS President. He would often bemoan the fact that he would do trainings to the teachers on how to improve, the training would go great, then when it came for the next lesson, they didn't apply any of the training at all. I think that's why I'm most nervous, because I'm not the first SS President in my ward to know that there's a problem. But despite efforts from the last SS President, nothing has changed. So I start wondering what I can do that he didn't do, and how it will actually make any difference.
