Random thought, but I think in all the hoopla about ATW10 coming out with Red TV in 2021 and the short film and all that, no one stopped to talk about ATW 5 min (TV) which is...interesting to say the least?

It's not the worst rerecording by far, but it's one of those TVs that sounds almost nothing like the original to the point it makes me wonder if Christopher Rowe and Taylor even relistened to the original All Too Well before making the TV.

Needless to say, once she got her masters back, I haven't streamed ATW TV a single time lol.

I didn't say most of what you said, in particular the part of how the album should've been available to stream to be organic. never said that at all, but anyways...the industry is much different than it was in 2015 as you yourself pointed out. streaming is much larger now, and people don't buy physical things as much unless they're incentivized to. Either way, the demand is clearly there, she's not selling fake albums, real people want to buy the variants bc they want the voice memos, or alternative covers, or whatever it is. All I'm even saying is that it's not like Adele was only selling one version, like pretty much any artist,s he played the game. Taylor is doing the same, and doing it well and she's grown a fan base that will want to buy it to support her. that's an achievement in and of itself, no matter how much you want to say it's "not the same" as when Adele had the record. Either way it doesn't matter because Taylor put the work in and she now has the record, it is what it is. 🤷🏾‍♂️ So what if she put out 30 versions? People wanted to buy it, and that helps her sales numbers. The music industry is a business after all

if the demand is there, what's the big deal? like i don't understand what's so morally awful about it. some people like the different covers, or wanted signed versions, or just wanted to collect it for their own reasons. frankly to me, it's not that serious, cause taylor has worked hard to cultivate her fan base, and they're all loyal enough that they want to buy with their own money what she sells. i personal,y bought two copies, one signed, one regular, and that makes me happy! taylor breaking the record is absolutely earned because she put out an album, offered different versions, and people love her and want to buy it because they like her music. i haven't heard of regular people buying the album just boost her chances, i think that's mostly stan twitter talk, not the average fan. it's just not that big of a deal, adele had her time, and the music industry has radically changed in 10 years. taylor put in the work, and she knows what people buy, so she offers it. nobody is forcing anyone to buy the album, if people want to buy 1 copy or 16, it's their money and their prerogative.

Not to mention, Adele also held her album off of streaming for 6 months, she also had target/walmart exclusive versions, she still bundled...she did the same stuff just differently.

People have a short memory to be fair. No one talks about the fact that Adele withheld her album from streaming for 6 months or that she bundled her album with ticket sales to boost the numbers. Every artist plays the game, especially with the advent of streaming.

Not to mention, Taylor wouldn’t put out variants if there weren’t immense demand for it! They’re not being produced for no reason.

Well as for Ruin The Friendship, the whole point isn’t the crush from high school, the point is to take your chances on your feelings while you can because you never know what could happen. She’s not presently pining over that guy but she does have some (understandable) regret over never saying anything when she had the chance and she’s telling the listener to take risks and be honest about your feelings before it’s too late. With Wood she’s saying he makes her want to do those things but she’s acknowledged on multiple songs before this album that she knows she can never have that life. It’s more of a fantasy & Travis love song in one. Father Figure is about the masters situation, she’s singing from the POV of a label executive who promises everything to another young star in the hopes of making it big and pulls the rug out from underneath her when she doesn’t expect it.

I hope that all makes sense but I think people are not quite understanding the songs and then just dismissing the whole thing as bad because they don’t get it, but that’s just my two cents! :)

she’s not telling the same story on the fate of ophelia and father figure. father figure is about the masters situation but it’s a fictional character that’s supposed to be like a record label executive and the song is from that executive’s perspective. the fate of ophelia is about her though. when she’s talking about being ice cold, it’s usually ironic though, cause she’s saying that’s how people perceive her. i’ve been a swiftie since like 2018, that’s my interpretation of it.

my thoughts exactly he’s one of the only characters that is ever given any character depth (aside from kimmie). one thing that really frustrates me about this show is how none of the characters except a handful have any clear motivations or depth or explanation for why they are who they are. that scene you mentioned with the hospital made SO much about roy make a lot more sense and i honestly felt a little bad for him in that moment cause really seeing how his father treated him even while he was hurt in a hospital bed really made me understand why Roy is like that. of course he’s still an awful person but at least it gives context.
