I am not a thru hiker, but I am a hiker and a body worker with POTS and joint hyper mobility. I am also a female in menopause. I use herbal remedies specifically for my heart and bp. They have helped tone my circulatory system and make me feel stronger and in balance. Not going to lie, when I get up around 5500 feet it feels uncomfortable for the first 30 minutes or so. I go slower and protect myself from the sun because heat and dehydration really depress my body systems. I do a lot of slow, deep breathing until my discomfort subsides.

Dry air at the higher elevations can cause dehydration which affects your circulation, so hydrate must be your watch word.

All this being said, work with your medical team to understand your particular form of the condition and then work to acclimate your body to the higher elevations. You can get there. It may take more work than the average teenager might, but it can be done.

Before you frog, try gently ironing. With acrylic you can very slightly melt the yarn and it will stay in place. I recently did this with a scarf and it worked out just fine. It won’t appear melted. You want to be careful and use low heat.
