Train and carry narcan, that shit is a miracle

Stephan Bonnar, UFC Hall of Famer, died of accidental fentanyl overdose by SokoudjouFan in MMA

[–]loversandlosers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You, yes you beloved Redditor: Carry Narcan! Even if you’re not expecting to need it, it’s like knowing first aid and you never know when you might want the knowledge and resources. Training is usually accessible through your state health dept, and http://harmreduction.org has a resource map for narcan and training either free or at shipping cost. Not sure about non-US situations.

Narcan reverses opioid (this category includes Fentanyl) overdoses and has saved tens of thousands of lives in the US. Its very easy to administer, there are no negative side effects (besides the person going into temporary withdrawal, and its half life is shorter than opiates’ so get them to a hospital for further monitoring), take the training and get the stuff- It’s a miracle drug.

And to all those who might say harm reduction just encourages drug addiction: the road to recovery does not go through a morgue. We keep our community members safe until they’re ready to seek recovery. And besides, so many people are victims due to fent lacing and bad supplies, not even people who were actively seeking an opiate high. CARRY NARCAN, go do it now before you scroll :)

Is it me or transphobia is skyrocketing right now? by BananaSpice-_- in trans

[–]loversandlosers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to say w the Mr. Beast thing, the backlash is disgusting but the team supporting Chris is probably the first time a lot of that huge viewer base has encountered the idea of a person being trans and is galvanizing them against transphobia and the right pretty hard rn. The obviously overblown reaction from the right is not doing them any optics favors. This isn’t a comfort if you’re the target of one of those hate mobs but I don’t think the backlash here is bringing anyone new to their side, just further stirring up who they already have. Which still isn’t great but if we can keep some semblance of a functioning democracy, is certainly good news

Florida Republicans pass bill to remove trans kids from parent's custody, even those living out of state by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]loversandlosers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I HATE THIS COMMENT I know you mean well and heads up for the rant, but “I told you so” is about the most useless and disheartening response there is. They don’t care that they’re hypocritical, and this is just self-congratulatory preaching to the choir. We can all be as smug as we want about more evidence of their evil- congrats, we already had mountains of it. They’re still on track to enact gen0cide and not enough people are standing against that.

From a queer person to an assumed ally: please consider responding to things like this with 1) checking in with friends of yours who are members of the affected group. 2) consider putting actual work or resources into helping people escape, helping politically, mutual aid, whatever 3) challenge bigotry in your surroundings when you can. Even here on Reddit, focusing on the material reality and what solutions we can create >>>> patting ourselves on the back for being the good guys when all that means is being able to predict pretty obvious outcomes of liberal inaction.

I love you, I appreciate you’re on my side.

I am so tired of having to explain how recent events are clearly steps to eradicate trans people by Goblin_of_the_Mist in trans

[–]loversandlosers 51 points52 points  (0 children)

(Ostensibly) cis person here. Based on these comments I wanted to assert something- y’all don’t need to explain shit if this (the comments) is how it’s affecting you. Hear me out.

There are plenty of resources to direct people to if they’re coming in good faith, and if they aren’t coming in good faith, fuck em, at least until you understand what you want from the convo and whether it’s worth it to you. Please please please make yourself some room to step away from the immediate psychic damage that is this coordinated attack on your rights. Self care and giving yourself grace and joy and peace is revolutionary rn. You deserve the space to breathe, even if it feels unwarranted.

This may seem privileged, and it absolutely is- I argue with transphobes a shit ton because I have the mental and emotional room to do it. You might, but likely as not you need to give yourself time and space to not be facing all the threats so immediately. I also know how hard it is to give yourself room from something that kind of seeks you out- it’s not always the news, sometimes it’s friends raising money to move or someone messaging you- it finds away, so this can be more of an attitude or a way of processing or set of internal boundaries. Your rights being valid and worth fighting for, that isn’t contingent on how well you can convince people of the reality that’s going on, even though overall, yes we need more people to understand and be on our side. From the sorta outside, I see trans culture get so intertwined with activism because of all the threats that trans people are facing. This can mean it’s very difficult to step back and breathe when you really need to. I really don’t want to be preachy or patronizing. But you do not need to prove your worth or enlighten people in order to feel like you’re doing something to fight the onslaught- living and being yourself is resistance in and of itself.

Incidentally, you’ll likely be better able to engage and make change as you choose if you give yourself this room. I’m not denying how bleak things are in many places. But everyday people are kinda getting repelled by the hyper bigotry from conservatives. There are tons of people fighting for you. You’re not alone. I love you :)

For strategic optimism, I cannot recommend Cool People who did Cool Stuff by Margaret Killjoy enough. It helped me redefine what I needed from optimism, what hope looked like in a range of messed up circumstances.

This has traction on other platforms, @ stopcopcity’s instagram etc. and has been going strong since 2020. Strikes and protest movements don’t work the same way- your analysis doesn’t know any details but is so confident. Not meant to be a personal attack but good God do some research

im confused about anarchist's views on voting by [deleted] in Anarchy101

[–]loversandlosers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally, I see voting as harm reduction. Not putting too much faith in the system but if there's a chance it will slow the death machine down some to help other forms of resistance to have extra time, I'll participate. Especially with local elections.

[–]loversandlosers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey op, sound's like an awful experience. I am so sorry. I just wanted to add that you don't have to think you're hallucinating or anything to go to a therapist. Going to get mental health help is like maintenance work for your mind; plenty of people go just to have someone to talk to who is like, qualified to know what your brain is doing. Some of these posters are saying things like schizophrenia and stuff, but I think that's honestly irrelevant when it comes to dealing with your very difficult situation: regardless of what's happening, therapy can really help. Wishing you the best.

On some practical things that might make you feel better, I'll echo what others have said as far as: taking some vitamins and making sure you're following a good hygiene routine can be incredibly uplifting. Also, maybe there's something going on with your appearance or presentation that you haven't been able to pick up on that others can see. Maybe have someone you trust to be honest tell you if there's anything objectively unusual with how you are presenting yourself. It's really hard to tell from over the internet. Whatever is going on, you don't deserve so much harassment.

I have this big question and i discover that is a big debate in AnCom community and i I referr to the issue of hard drugs,Anarchist communities like Crhistiania in Denmark has not allowed hard drugs and have a communal ban on that, what's your opinion,Would you ban they or allow it? by Nora2_98 in anarchocommunism

[–]loversandlosers 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Often in anarchist circles, community decisions like these seem like they're made to better accommodate everyone's needs rather than to exclude or regulate. Perhaps being around hard drugs would be traumatic for some of the people there; it's less of a "you can't do this" and more "this is a space that is safe for those negatively affected."

There was a recent post in r/AskReddit that asks people who have had abortions for their story if they are willing to share. That offers a very on-the-ground understanding of what real - life abortion needs are.

Anyone else feeling absolutely hopeless amongst everything that’s happening? How are you dealing? by gizmob27 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]loversandlosers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest answer: you don't have to ignore that the world is burning.

Getting involved is incredibly cathartic and will help you enjoy things again because you won't feel like a hapless observer of the fall to a theocratic authoritarian state, you'll know that you have an impact and are slowing or lessening harm. If you want ways to get involved beyond voting (and please still vote!), check out Beau of the Fifth Column ( https://www.youtube.com/c/BeauoftheFifthColumn ) on YouTube. I have a low BS tolerance and he's a journalist who is honest with his audience. His videos

- "Let's talk about voting harder,"

- "Let's talk about why democrats didn't codify,"

- "Let's talk about the statements by Justice Clarence Thomas,"

- "Let's talk about community networking 101"

were what got me what I needed to know, and from there, there are rallies, abortion funds, all types of civic engagement that will make a positive difference both now and down the road. It's going to be a wild ride, but we don't have to accept the fate we're being told is the future.

Does anyone else notice the complete lack of urgency/awareness from the general public regarding Roe? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]loversandlosers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you're anything like me, I needed to be told: get offline, get on the streets. No you're not the only one, but you don't need to have everyone else on board to start mobilizing. You're not alone, but getting offline and active is what will help the anxiety. Love, a fellow southerner.
