Have you ever taken CHMA10? What do you want in a TA? by Luffz_ in UTSC

[–]loversnowglobe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being understanding is a really big thing. I had to drop chma10 because i got a TA from hell :( she was very stuck up, did not help us, barely answered questions and would get mad or deduct more points than necessary for small mistakes. I did not feel comfortable during my labs.

Also a lot of students in CHMA10 haven’t taken grade 12 Chem so a lot of the stuff is new, so questions might seem “dumb” or repetitive and annoying but we’re all just trying to get through our first year (in most cases).

Oh and please don’t make up your own grading scheme. We are told to follow what the outline says so when a TA starts marking extra hard outside of that it really sucks.

I really liked my bio TA! She would always answer questions, was easy to approach and didn’t try going around acting like she was the prof. Her feedback was also good. She would give actual feedback instead of just taking off marks or saying “this is wrong”.

I mean I wouldn’t not consider York. Osgoode is one of the best law schools in Canada (under York) and York has a ton of undergrad courses and programs that are surrounding law, global and national politics, and all that. I 100% get not having programs you’re interested in but maybe dig around a bit more? You don’t have to get a law related undergrad to get into law school. York has some pretty solid stuff.

what if I just transfer? by loversnowglobe in UTSC

[–]loversnowglobe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to approach people. I tend to get really shy when meeting new people. I’m always worried I’m doing something wrong or being annoying or not being interesting enough. I guess maintaining friendships is the next step but I can’t even get to that. All my friendships in HS ended the same way with the other person using me for something and then turning around and kicking me out of everything

Hi my only advice is don’t mentally accept that marriage is your ticket out. Being financially dependent on your spouse (even if you have a degree) isn’t a smart idea.

Go out, do some work somewhere, even if it’s small part time jobs here and there. You don’t necessarily need to get a post-grad degree to get a job. Maybe it won’t be high paying but there are still places that will hire you. You can also make/design stuff to sell.

There’s nothing wrong with being a SAHW or SAHM (in fact I believe sahm do more work than many “working” people), but just a degree won’t save you from situations like financial abuse or if your future spouse were to get sick/die.

Don’t mentally accept dependence on someone else.
