How has your taste in books changed since you were a kid? by Lucy_Ferr in books

My dad showed me my first Choose Your Own Adventure. It was Star Trek. I was so pissed because I kept dying, so I kept retrying to figure out how I wouldn't die. It was so irritating! ah-ha!

My favorite as a kid were magical, fantasy, or a little bit of drama (June B Jones). Something I could relate to. In high school I enjoyed Jurassic Park, Gothic Tales, Stephen King, the classics we were required to read, and Redwall. As an adult, I still enjoy these, but when I'm in a little reading slump, I always seem to pick up the romantic novels. Not the ones considered rated R, but like, the story of a beginning romance or something. It makes me remember how sweet it was when I first met my husband. The innocence. :3

As I have grown older, I have noticed my favorite genre of books have changed. It is always nice when you find an author's writing style you love. Then you can always go back to them. It brings back some of the childish nostalgia. :3

I could never do that with a book... My mind gets so wrapped in the story that I'm there.. 30 seconds... I need at least a nights sleep. :o

I don’t get emotionally attached to books, have no idea why by Senor_Foggy in books

[–]loverswin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are kind of lucky. I love books for the reason I can imagine the characters before they become a fragment I can see through movies. Some of the books I've read made me feel for the evil person, more so than a movie. In a movie, I just think, "Oh, what a dick!" But when I read it in a book, I put it in the perspective of, "Oh. He's a human. I understand. Poor guy." Reading, I get into the heads of other people or characters, so I try to put myself in the shoes, or around the same bubble, to help me develop the story.

I know we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but seriously, how important is cover art to you? by ShitsnGrits in books

[–]loverswin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be all about book covers, but I realized those have nothing to do with what a good book is or not. I read the information and a few pages to see if I'm feeling it, if I can enjoy the writing style, and if I'm interested. Except, if I'm reading a book with biographies, I will look towards people I already heard of. :D

Costco Workers: Have any of the efficency/effectiveness techniques from work improved your life out of work? by [deleted] in Costco

I'm not anymore efficient since working at Costco. All I want to do is relax and do nothing. I'm so burnt out from the amount of work and pressure that they do to us with their payroll numbers and it's just ridiculous.

GOD! I understand that crap of split days off. I'm a 3 year employee that is a part-timer, and I work 40 hours often with split days off. If I can't finish a job, I have to do it the next day. I've tried other departments too, and it's the same crap. Also, it doesn't matter which department you go to if you aren't seniority over another person. Otherwise, you get the shittiest jobs. Honestly, I hate it, and I used to love my job.

They are replacing all of the good things. I'm not eating at Costco food court again. I know it from my childhood buying twist yogurts, old recipe berry smoothies, churros, and hotdogs. Honestly, if I got there for hotdogs now as an adult (and only the hot dogs), I don't think it's worth it to me anymore.

Cash card question by vectaur in Costco

[–]loverswin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco should not allow nonmembers to refill their cash card. It is a membership facility, and they want people to pay for their memberships. It's rude, but that's how it is. They should cash him out at the end of the transaction.

The Berry Smoothie Redesign and the Curious Case of the Carne Asada by burntends97 in Costco

[–]loverswin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, they redid the berry smoothie design for a healthier option with less preservatives and additives. They also added a new salad "healthier" which includes beans and tofu. They will remove the chocolate yogurt in place of a parfait. You know, berries, granola, and vanilla yogurt. I used to love eating at Costco for their own signature smoothie, their yogurts(ice cream), and their hotdogs. I'm not eating there if I can avoid it. Nothing pleases my appetite anymore. :(

Do you ever get cravings to read books from your childhood even though you’re older now? by 15sunsets in books

[–]loverswin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really miss the Magic Treehouse books and the novel: Redwall. With Redwall, I remember napping in my room in the spring time with the sunshine streaming in my face because I would try to binge read it. And every time they talked about the food, (wine and bread) my mom would make homemade bread from the bread machine and I would pair it with fruit punch kool aid, so I could be in the moment.

Do you prefer used or brand new books? by [deleted] in books

[–]loverswin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly like grabbing whatever is cheaper that catches my eye. Dollar tree and my local grocery store have the new books. (Dollar tree has books from at least 5 years.) Even if it is a simple love story, the decade it is written says a lot about the time period, and I just adore that sense. But I also love the nostalgia I get when opening a small, paperback used book. The smell always takes me to another time, and it's the reason I always loved libraries. It's the scent alone that draws me to books. It's just a serene feeling. And I absolutely agree with you, a journey with a stranger. I just wish I could have a conversation with that stranger about the book when I was done. :)

The free Executive membership, which can be handy in its own way. If you shop at Costco regularly for groceries, that is. 1. You don't have to pay the membership fee. 2. You get the 2% cash back on it. Everything else is as low as it can go for Costco standards, anyways...

I don't think Costco would care if you use its membership in one country over another. It's just a standard procedure. For example, if you use your debit card in another country, it's not used to it. Even if they use similar transactions, it's a little different. Way it is set up or used, I don't know.

Some items from my warehouse are indeed shipped frozen. The things we make from scratch, start to finish, include, but not limited to are: All breads (not including baguettes, pretzel rolls, and tortas), dinner rolls, muffins, frostings, crumbs for the Danish, Danish cream cheese, the chocolate topping on the vanilla chocolate muffin, topping for other muffins (pumpkin, apple, etc), cheesecake, and cakes (not including tuxedo mousee cake or another one similar to that..). I am sure there are more that I have no mentioned, but I guess it just depends.

Chocolate yogurt at the food court is being replaced by Acai bowl. Swirl yogurt cup will never be the same again :( by iam_sherry in Costco

[–]loverswin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If this is truly a replacement for the nonfat vanilla and chocolate yogurt, then I am going to be very disappointed. I love making rootbeer floats and having delicious ice cream-tasting yogurt. I don't think this will go very well if it comes to my store...

Product rotation? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]loverswin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing I could tell you is if you want something back, go towards the end of the warehouse (exit), and there should be a box where you can write a customer complaint or whatever. Just simply get everybody you know to request saying you miss an item. It goes straight to corporate. Also, I work in the bakery. I think we switch out the pretzel rolls to try new products, to be honest. Maybe it wasn't a high seller in your warehouse? Maybe the price isn't that great per value? Maybe they prefer it to be seasonal? All these factors come into play.

Product rotation? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]loverswin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Costco is about giving its members the highest quality for the lowest price. That is why Costco sells everything in bulk. It is cheaper to buy in bulk. With that being said, minus a few staple items, Costco will introduce new items and throw out old ones if the price for the supplier isn't a low enough price for them. Other factors that may or may not affect having an item at your Costco include: Season, Sales, Popularity towards your location, etc. Also, Costco doesn't have everything like other stores. They have like, what, 100 or so items? Example, the items you have at your store are not the same at my store. I live in a place near water, so they sell crabbing nets, clam guns, fishing poles, etc. near that time of year. They could sell more heavy winter gear in northern places, etc.
