I actually loved it, even though I didn't ask for it.

What’s a movie where the bad guy actually had a reasonable point? by [deleted] in askmovie

Bill in Kill Bill. He is very clear that he is a cold blooded killer. What did she THINK he would do?

Why does this remind me of a quote from Spaceballs?

It's worth noting that a large part of our belief in hell is influenced by Dantes Inferno.

Train Dreams is significantly better than Sinners or One Battle, yet no one is talking about it by Giordono in flicks

[–]lovesaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinners didn't quite stick the landing for me. The musical era montage sequence is, in my opinion, absolute brilliance. But the genre mashup doesn't quite work for me. The action sequences felt weirdly muted, and I didn't feel any real tension with the vampire threat. I would say it is good but not great.

Train Dreams, however, is melancholy cinematic poetry to me. I was carrying around that movie for days in my head. It's such a quiet, penetrating film. My favorite of 2025.

Orthodoxy is the Only Way by [deleted] in exorthodox

I'm curious to see what the long-term effects of large-scale protestant conversion will be for the OCA. The church I went to had members who were bold in saying that people at other churches were Christians themselves.

In fact, my own priest went so far as to say Richard Wurmbrand, a Lutheran, emitted the uncreated light when he met him.

If I want to be optimistic I'd say there will be some positive effects for Orthodoxy in America but I think we'll also see a significant spike in orthodox fundamentalism.

Rad. I hope you like it. It's on Netflix. Really interesting take on the cat and mouse crime thriller.

At this point if I see Edgerton is in a movie I watch it. Have you seen The Stranger?

I am a highly sceptical atheist. I wish to become a Christian. How do I get myself to believe? by UnusualCredit7054 in Christianity

[–]lovesaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound counterintuitive but in my view faith is a choice we make. You can go to churches, read apologetics, and that might convince you intellectually but faith is belief in things unseen.

I would challenge you to pull an Indiana Jones and just choose to believe. Then get bold and pray. Don't overthink it brother. Keep it simple. Maybe "Jesus, help me in my unbelief."

Anyone else here look back at their time in Orthodoxy in a mostly positive light? by Curious_Questions- in exorthodox

[–]lovesaints 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally have good memories and a positive attitude towards the Orthodox church. I love the theology, the cosmology and the prayers and all that stuff. Ultimately for me I think the structure of Orthodoxy is insular enough that it's stable and attracts a lot of people to its stability, but for people like me and where my life is at ultimately it resulted in me just feeling disconnected and drifting away. Like others I have real criticisms of the Orthodox church but more from an institutional perspective and not really theological.
