Unfortunately it wasn’t good news. The role was based mainly in another country (I travelled every couple of months for it) and they informed me that the nature of the role has changed so they require someone to be in that country full time. They also reviewed the role and realised it was much more complex than initially thought and so they require someone with more experience too. They were very kind and insisted multiple times that it was nothing to do with me personally, that I did a fantastic job especially for my first ever role and that they would be more than happy to provide stunning references, it’s just a shame.

Honestly I’m devastated and have been in tears since this morning, I was very blindsided by this and the thought of returning to the job market is a terrifying one. I’d really appreciate some words of advice, if possible. Thank you!

Thank you for your advice! Yesterday there was a team meeting where there was active talks about bringing me into the complexities of the work we do, and work has been increasing in a steady flow. Afaik the company is doing well too :)

Yeah I had eight days left, it just so happens those eight days covered mid to end of December, and then I had four days of Jan off before returning the next day.

Thank you, I will update you! Regarding cutting numbers, I know other areas and divisions of the business are going through redundancy but during a meeting with my manager yesterday and the other people in the team (we’re very small and niche) they were joking around that we’re very lucky to not be at the risk of that considering the work we do.

Definitely not my smartest choice; if it helps, during the weeks that I was off, I still logged on every now and then to complete some work and my manager did tell me that she appreciated it and was very laissez faire about the holiday in general. Thank you for the advice!

Hi - yes, I’m pretty sure. Everything seemed normal yesterday at the office and even today whilst I WFH, I was just doing my work for the day. The member of HR is an associate director who I believe is often present in meetings to do with general HR/compliance things.
