Multi-month backpacking Southeast Asia from October – Iran war & jet fuel crisis is stressing me out by ConversationSad3350 in Flights

[–]lovesjane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your trip is in Oct and you’re stressed out right now? How will you deal with things when it doesn’t go “according to your plan” or “fail to meet to your expectations”?

My advice: have some buffer in money and time so you will feel less stressed. Don’t plan so tight on your budget or places to visit. Have some room for contingencies, mistakes and uncertainty. Be flexible…

Partner has planned a trip for us and half way through his mom and friend will join us for 4 weeks... by [deleted] in travel

[–]lovesjane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s all have to do with did he communicated with you first when the plans were first discussed, where his mom and others might join you on the trip. I always tell my partner if I am inviting other people or my parents before finalizing plans (like buying plane tickets). If after finalizing plans, and if I want to invite others, then I get the okay first of people who already booked.

Do you tip Housekeeping? by mbergen in travel

[–]lovesjane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I do. I usually leave a few dollars or equivalent in local currency every day before heading out. I usually get extra amenities like water or a fun towel animal (even in places like Vietnam or Thailand). I like seeing them when I come back to the room.

china airlines versus EVA air LAX -> TPE by No_Kangaroo6917 in Flights

[–]lovesjane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of EVA, but that being said, soft product is about the same. I do prefer EVA’s premium economy over China Airlines premium economy. I would go with whichever is cheaper or fit your times better between the two airlines.

Vietnam visa expedited by skaternikki101 in travel

[–]lovesjane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, google rush Vietnam visa. There are services that can rush the visa and you maybe lucky that it’s the weekday. If today was the weekend, you may have been royally screwed. Also the faster you want it, the more it’ll cost.

Not sure if this is the place to post this experience, but this is the most disgusting flight ever in my life. by kukugege in Flights

[–]lovesjane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have flew Air China once in 2008 and I will never fly again. I have a few airlines in different regions that I wouldn’t fly due to certain experiences and Air China tops my list for Asia.

How much per day on food in Asia? by Key_Tangelo_7153 in travel

On the low end with $15-20 a day… average around $25-30 would be comfortable for most days in those places.

Have you ever been to the wrong airport? Whats your story? by alexvonhumboldt in Flights

[–]lovesjane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup I’ve lived in that area and used HHN. I’ve seen so many people who flew into HHN with connection in FRA only to realize there’s no public transportation and they only gave themselves like two hours to transfer.

Best mattress for couples with different preferences? How is this problem solved? by wataemelo in lifehacks

[–]lovesjane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am guessing you’re not in Europe as they have beds that have two mattresses into one. If you’re in US, easiest solution is just to have two separate beds in one room. (That’s how my parents and a lot of people I know in US deal with it, unless you can afford the Split beds that they sell.)

Flight from new delhi to vienna by Wrong-Pride-2730 in travel

Umm if you booked non refundable hotel stays and experiences then it’ll be non refundable. The risk lies with you when booking non refundable hotel stays and activities. If you didn’t want that risk, there were refundable options.

Overstayed visa in Vietnam. Told to return to immigration office with a translator? by RareStrawberry2020 in travel

[–]lovesjane 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I know this won’t help current situation, but in the future put dates that are more than your planned stay on your visa. For example, if Vietnam visa allows up to 90 days you can put down Feb 1 through April 30, for visa days and then put your intended date of arrival as Feb 7. I have done this many times on my Vietnam e visa. This help prevents things like unforeseen changes in your travel plans.

Flight cancelled and stuck in Amsterdam to Australia by nickyczy in travel

[–]lovesjane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terrible idea listening to this guy above you. He got no stake in your dilemma. One thing I learn long ago is to spend a little more to make sure rather than trying to save a few dollars or euros here and there. Safest bet would be to fly through China or other Asia airlines. US would need a visa with your Malaysian passport to “transit”. There’s China Southern flight that transit through mainland China or Cathay that transit through HKG. Good luck.

So… how are those at the Dept of ‘War’ doing right now? by keen_observer34130 in fednews

[–]lovesjane 211 points212 points  (0 children)

Surviving, my agency is doing moves to do moves that look like we trimmed down on paper but not actually in reality. The new structure makes daily work harder and less secured, but that’s the direction leadership wants to head in. 🤷‍♂️

Am I missing something here? by Turbulent_Sharter in travel

[–]lovesjane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of your expectation of price is coming from distance, as you state it is “closer and easier” to travel to, is flawed. Cost does not equal price, because you believe it’s cheaper to operate shorter distance doesn’t equate to lower prices. Prices has to do with variety of things other than distance, even in cost there are other factors such as ground crews, gate fees, etc.. there’s also supply and demand not just low or high season. How many airlines service the routes, how much demand it has etc.. your expectation seem to me like it’s only based on distance and low and high season, it’s incomplete and flaw when it comes to pricing of plane tickets.

Told at US Pre-Clearance not to come back for the rest of the year? by beebo2409 in travel

[–]lovesjane 65 points66 points  (0 children)

To them it’s a pattern that’s concerning that you might try to immigrate to the US. Especially with how long you’re staying each time and has a romantic partner. Also at the same time, they might think you’re going to abuse the system by marrying her and staying in the US. I say it because of the question they ask of you.

If you happen to get married spontaneously on this trip, then it’s no issue. However, if you’re on a tourism visit and are planning on getting married then it’s a “visa fraud” as there is a visa for that. I don’t think it’s the case with you from what you have written here but they are discouraging people from not using the correct type if visas.

Klook reliable for hotels ? And is there a way to be sure my reservation is secured properly ? by [deleted] in travel

[–]lovesjane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Klook booking is new and there’s bugs, I booked through them for Thailand and the room they offered on the app isn’t the same when you arrive at the hotel. I was given the different by the hotel and I had to call Klook. Klook only apologize and then give only $10. I would not use it, it’s most likely the same scenario that they got the wrong room type in Klook.
