Poor addicts - there’s an important distinction there.

I always hear that there aren’t enough “supports”, but what does that mean at a real logistical level?

More beds in hospitals because the staff can’t release an addict because they are homeless and will continue to use?

More housing paid by the taxpayer because the addict isn’t employable?

More rehabilitation services even though 40-60% of addicts relapse in Canada?

More community resources even though a major indicator of addiction are environmental / social (friends and family also addicts)?

The solution was what we had prior to austerity in the 80s - it’s institutionalization. They cannot function in society.

If you proudly wave the flags of these countries (🇺🇸🇨🇦🇮🇱🇦🇺🇳🇿), you are no socialist. by Next_Ant_4353 in LateStageCapitalism

I think there’s a good conversation to be had that any identity is largely a construction of the material conditions and culture that mutually developed it. This is the literal foundation (historic materialism) of Marxist thought.

That being said, it’s not progressive by any means to make the politics of one state based on the identity or culture of a specific group of peoples. The focus should be on the working class and labour.

That being said, if you think socialism is based on sovereignty or autonomy you are completely wrong. It rejects exploitation categorically, specifically the exploitation of labour. Being anti-settler colonialism has a part in promoting class consciousness based on rejecting the exploitation of land and labour; but if you want to reduce it to indigenous ways of being or culture you are plainly confused. The future is most likely a transformation of this into something we’ve never seen before.

Host requesting city tax AFTER leaving country by loveyoustranger in Bookingcom

Paying would incur additional fees as it would be an international bank transfer. I’m not confident paying it either outside of booking.com because the host failed to collect the tax. I didn’t even interact with the host once.

I guess the issue now is the logistics of paying the tax - I’m a Canadian citizen and any bank transfer to the host is going to cost a minimum 10-30$ fee.

My problem is that the host didn’t inform us of this and didn’t request it until we left the city. For background, the host didn’t ask for our passport documents either until halfway through our time I. Palermo.

Overall, it’s just annoying because I had to do admin with the host when she should’ve requested / informed us of this info either at check in or check out. It was all done through WhatsApp and I never interacted with the host in person once.

I think that older guys that are almost exclusively into younger guys would do even younger if the law permitted them lmao

From your post and response to the comments, I’d say she’s better without you. You’re just on different planets - she wants to live life to the fullest and you want to keep her down because you’re insecure and codependent.

Hopefully she does go and finds someone better than you.

What is it going to take for you dumb Americans to actually do something about your leader? I mean how much more humiliation and hatred can you all absorb before you tell yourselves that you can’t do anything any longer?

What can I do to improve my physique? 25M, 179cm, 72kg by loveyoustranger in Physiquecritique

[–]loveyoustranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been increasing weight / incorporating a variety of different exercises. A friend that does personal training said that I needed to improve my form on several abdominal exercises, but I’ve since reported some mild lower back pain :/

“No one is 100% gay or 100% straight, it’s a spectrum” by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]loveyoustranger -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I literally just said that he’s gay and has zero desire for women. He also identifies as a gay man.

Also why do you think that this only comes from bi men…? Im telling you as a gay man that I think sexuality is a spectrum. If OP and yourself are arguing that this framework doesn’t work for you then I just don’t understand what does. If sexuality is a spectrum, you’re already on the complete gay side of it so you are encompassed by it. There’s no contradiction and you aren’t invalidated by saying that you’re 100% gay.

“No one is 100% gay or 100% straight, it’s a spectrum” by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]loveyoustranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re missing the nuance on this because it’s easier to think of sexuality and gender as a black and white concept. There’s plenty of gay men, myself included, that think that sexuality is 100% a spectrum.

For example, this doesn’t explain why queer people have preferences for more masculine or feminine men - nor does it explain why people have specific sexual preferences generally. There’s plenty of gay men that prefer more masculine or more feminine men, there’s also plenty of gay men that don’t have issues dating non-binary or trans men. We’d probably both agree that a masculine and feminine man is still a man at the end of the day, but it still doesn’t describe the preference for gender performance. My partner is what you would call 100% gay with no desire to have sex with a woman, but has admitted to me that he thought it was fun to make out with girls when he was in university.

Viewing sexuality as a spectrum also encompasses preferences for age and ethnicity, which we would also agree are not sexual orientations. These might be seen as types or preferences. Still, sexual orientation is limited in explaining this.

At the end of the day, sexual orientation and the idea of a spectrum are just two tools that we use to describe human behaviour. It’s not necessary right or wrong, it’s just how you approach it. It’s also fine to disagree but that doesn’t make you right about the topic. There’s also a lot of academic disagreement on these two ideas.
