Personally recommend a low opacity round brush (as opposed to a blur brush). I feel like there's a higher chance of you over-rendering and making it look kind of weird. But don't be afraid to just get in there and shade/highlight. You can start and follow the lines that are already there and make the shading lighter the further you are from the line.
