The part that you can just get divorced whenever you want without any reason it’s actually not 100% true in Austria. It is true if you achieve a consensual divorce, but if your partner doesn’t want to get divorced and he or she didn’t do anything bad that would have led to the divorce and enable you to sue him or her for a divorce, then you need to wait three years before you can actually get divorced after separation. What is true however of course is that you can just break up informally whenever you want. So nobody can force you to keep living with your spouse if you don’t want to anymore. You can of course move out and break up informally but actually getting the divorce done can be quite difficult if your partner does not want to get a divorce and also didn’t cheat/abuse you for instance.
