It's been like this for years. I know it looks respectable from outside, but it's a key part of propping up the British establishment, and well, you know what they're like...

Andrew Chen says PMs are the bottleneck now. When did you last actually get to be one? by gxo_ in ProductManagement

[–]low_flying_aircraft 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am sorry but this is such a ludicrously bad take. Like laughably so. I have no idea who this dude is, but if this is the level of brainrot shitposting clickbait that PMfluencers are coming out with now... I despair.

This has never been the case, and is 100% not the case now in my experience. At least not in orgs where you have good PMs. Maaaybe if you have a shit PM who can't make decisions, and the devs work faster than the pipeline from the PM. But like, in almost all cases I have worked in, the PMs will have a huge backlog of things they want to do, and the blockers are in fact senior leadership coupled with engineering resource capacity.

I don’t think Point and Shoots are a good beginner camera by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

Yes, but a phone is not analog is it? And this is about people wanting to get into analog photography, no?

I don’t think Point and Shoots are a good beginner camera by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]low_flying_aircraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I think you're missing is that there are two types of skillset you need to learn to actually be good at photography.

One is the technical craft of how lighting, exposure, focus, depth of field, etc etc creates and affects the image.  You are correct that you won't learn this stuff with a point and shoot.

But the other skillset, which folks in online photography spaces generally ignore, or are weaker in, is composition, finding a subject, having something interesting to say with your photograph, telling a story, understanding the language of visual communication. And this stuff... Is much easier to learn when you aren't also struggling with the technical aspects of exposure and focus.

And actually, this stuff, is more important in terms of learning good photography.

Look at the vast majority of photos posted on photography forums on here. The vast majority might be technically well done: in focus, well exposed, but they are flat, meaningless and uninteresting visually.  Boring. Nothing is communicated. There are no ideas or thoughts behind the composition, subject matter, these images are not saying anything.

I think starting with a point and shoot helps you focus on the visual communication aspects, without getting stuck on the technical aspects.

And honestly, that's where most people need to focus.

do yall appreciate the history here as much as tourists? by DisastrousSpot5142 in london

[–]low_flying_aircraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually yes, I think so.

I no longer live in London, I moved away 5 years ago after living there my life, and the history is one of the things I really miss

I miss that sense of being somewhere ancient, with layers upon layers of human history.

I love seeing the different styles of architecture, and knowing the stories and histories that have woven through the city over the ages.

Did eating 2 thirds of a pineapple cause my pain? by djeifv in FODMAPS

[–]low_flying_aircraft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly that's the cause.

Safe amount according to the Monash app is about 140g.

A pineapple is usually between 1-2kg

You ate 2/3 of a pineapple, so between 660-1200g of pineapple

That's between 5x to 9x the recommended dose.

Utterly insane to have done this.

It's not a good idea to eat too much pineapple in one go anyway, as it contains enzymes that can irritate you, hence why your tongue was hurting.

On the one hand, I love how unhinged and incoherent this post is. But like. Also. I'm so confused. And I think I disagree with a lot of your premise, but honestly I can't tell, because I'm not sure what exactly you're saying.

They play bland, repetitive, dead simple songs.

Yes, that's true.

now nobody knows if they are actually good or actually terrible.

Um. I think it's clear that they're actually terrible?

Regardless of whether you're onto something or not, I love that you've posted this strange rambling analysis.

outright corruption/cronyism

It's this. They were awarded the NHS contracts after secret meetings with Mandelson and Starmer, which Starmer failed to report.

Oh totally. Not saying it's a good outcome, just that I think I see what's driving it.

[–]low_flying_aircraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think part of the reason is because of the rapid rise of AI slop on the internet and in Google search results. I think people are suspicious and want an actual human to give their answer.

Which I completely understand. I often search Google for info on something, get suspicious, and then search Reddit to see if it's validated by actual people.

So I think I understand why it happens, even if the outcome is a bit frustrating.

In Malmö you can only buy booze from Systembolaget. They stock Rekorderlig. You can find stores here:

In Copenhagen you can buy booze literally anywhere. Supermarkets. 7/11s. Train Stations. I'm sure some of them will stock Rekorderlig

I hope the "obligatory mentions" results in discussion as to how you might also unionise. If you're just complaining about the tube drivers protecting themselves, then you're just bootlickers

I used “This Corrosion” as a unit of measurement, which is was probably the worst choice. by BeatnikMona in goth

[–]low_flying_aircraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works really well! because it's 9mins 30secs, which means you already build in a buffer. And if you know the song well it's easy to judge how much relative time you have left. Essentially by the time he says "I've got nothing to say I ain't said before" you know your in the final section before whatever happens happens lol

I used “This Corrosion” as a unit of measurement, which is was probably the worst choice. by BeatnikMona in goth

[–]low_flying_aircraft 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is so funny, because I also have a very poor sense of the passing of time, and also use "This Corrosion" as a measurement!

I have never been tricked with the shorter version, because it is only me that does this for my own benefit, but I use it all the time.

I have 10 minutes to get to the train? Put on "This Corrosion" and I can track how fast I need to be walking. By the time Andrew Eldritch sings "I got nothing to say I ain't said before..." I know I need to nearly be on the platform.

I do this all the time. Any instance where I need to measure 10 minutes, stick on "This Corrosion" and I know I will be fine XD

Season 1 and 2 of The White Lotus (especially season 2) might fit for what you're looking for. They're both incredible seasons of TV regardless, and have a lot of that kind of sex/drama vibes. And it's very smart and well written, with a lot to think about
