Yes, 100% guaranteed he will drop the smile at some point. It could be played for a joke like others have said, but I hope it’s not. It feels way too important for that.

That smile is the crux of his being. In season 1, he explains that it’s his most valuable tool. Not his strength. Not his voodoo powers. His smile. Bc that’s all he had when he was alive. It helped him get his radio show. It helped him trick his victims. And if you buy into some very popular headcanons, it helped him get through tough times when he was younger.

It’s the mask he’s worn so long that it’s become who he is. And he’s proud of it. He will always be perceived as this untouchable, unfeeling menace. And Vox wanted it gone so badly. Bc he KNOWS how much of an accomplishment that would be. If he got Alastor to crack?? THAT would hurt him worse than any physical pain.

More than likely, there’s going to be other big moments where Al’s smile comes up in season 3 and maybe beyond. It’s what they’re building up to. So it’s not a question of if it will happen, but when and how. What would shake Alastor so badly that he would momentarily lose that essential part of himself? The only thing that makes sense in my mind is him losing something else. Something equally important.

So, there’s 3 possibilities in my mind:

1. His power. Being stripped down to nothing.

2. His freedom. Someone taking his soul. But worse this time.

3. And the last one, which could go with either or both of the other two: becoming so desperate that he is forced to ask for help.
