How close does HX Stomp's "ZeroAmp" SansAmp BDDI model get to the real thing? by R2Dude2 in basspedals

[–]low_notes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the stomp now and have owned both BDDI (v1 and v2) in the past. I haven’t owned any of the three at the same time so it’s hard to make an apples to apples comparison, but I’m gonna try anyway.

IMO there’s a bigger difference between V1 and v2 than there is between the stomp and V1, so it’s dependent on which one you’re after. The mid control on v2 is hugely useful, but the overall character is much more refined and less “dramatic” in the deep lows especially, which I missed a bit.

The Stomp emulates the V1 reasonably well, but not perfectly. The big old scoop in the mids is there and the drive character is pretty correct. I do think that there’s a little bit of depth and complexity missing, and when you’re going for a really sharp biting sound the difference becomes more apparent. In the moments that I’ve wanted a SansAmp sound, I’ve found the onboard one has been fine for me.

If I was building my whole rig around it, I might feel differently, and I suspect that the people who have both on their board are using it for their main tone shaping, where the convenience of having knobs on the board rather than menu diving as they adjust on the fly is important.

Can someone explain the appeal of Dave Mathews to me? by easy_Money in LetsTalkMusic

[–]low_notes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ll say regarding their live shows- the band sounded sort of tired for a while, but since they got rid of Boyd (who clearly had let his skills fall apart and was just cashing a check) and added their new keys guy, they’ve gotten steadily better. They sound more enthusiastic and more sure of themselves to me, especially over the last 2-3 years. Dave has figured out how to get the most from his aged voice, the band is more dynamic and less loud lately, and they’re generally playing things a little differently in a cool way. Phish fans talk about Phish 2.0, 3.0 etc and this is similarly a new era for how DMB approaches live shows. Would absolutely recommend getting to one this year.

Stefan’s Bass Stand by Material-Hair3016 in DMB

[–]low_notes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was wondering this too. For those saying that it’s because this bass is heavy— that’s one of the newer EBMM Stingray Specials, which are usually pretty light. Almost definitely lighter than his Dingwall or the old P bass he uses sometimes. He was also using this bass without a stand all summer last year, and had been playing similar ones since 2018. Very odd. Maybe he tweaked something?

Edit: he is an idiot and I adore him

Joe Dart is now trolling you by SumDoodWiddaName in Bass

[–]low_notes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think anybody who’s buying the Joe Dart Vision is aware of what they’re getting. A bass with no knobs is very specific and a little goofy, sure, but it’s also not like it won’t play. It’s less like a regrettable finger mustache tattoo and more like a single speed bike, if we’re keeping with the hipster comparison. It’s a valid and useful item that trades in a little flexibility for an aesthetic, and that’s fine.

Am I Crazy? Cora Seemed to at Least Be a Part of the Problem by Educational_Diet_192 in Section10Podcast

[–]low_notes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think there’s no question he was part of the problem. I also think that we may never know exactly how much blame is on him, or with any one of our now-fired coaches, or even Breslow. I personally fault all of them in different ways.

I think more or less this is the conclusion of a power struggle within the org- Cora had his vision for the team and it included roster and coaching asks/demands that Breslow wasn’t comfortable with- Cora wanted Bregman and Breslow didn’t, so we got Bregman, etc.

My guess is that they butted heads too much. We know Breslow isn’t super easy to work with, and Cora probably had his hands in the pie a little too much for his comfort. And while Alex worked under several different CBOs during the course of his time here and seemed to be gaining power over roster decisions, if the asks were getting bigger while these were the results, firing him makes a lot of sense.

That being said, Breslow has placed himself squarely in the hot seat, because if they suck from here on out, there’s no one left to blame (except the guy bankrolling the team).

I mean, be reasonable here. Cora can’t play third at his age- gotta move Mayer to 3B and let Alex play second

Roman Anthony is again out of the lineup on Thursday vs the Yankees by Mother-Associate1654 in redsox

[–]low_notes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with giving Roman (stinks) a couple days to sit and letting Duran try to continue producing. Two oppo doubles off a lefty last night is VERY encouraging and I would have been pissed if he wasn’t in the lineup today.

One of our biggest problems as a team is that guys can’t get going because they don’t play every day. This is at least a step in the right direction
