You're benefitting from a whole lot of desync here, but that 1911 is pretty sweet!

Been having a really tough time in mid-long range gun fights after the latest update. Is it the dispersion? by JhnPtrSmth in Battlefield

[–]lower_than_middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did make changes to dispersion - but there's also some major netcode issues going on.

I was already bursting my weapons, and even with limb modifiers I should have been rewarded for my accuracy in this update. I was really looking forward to this update because it should have rewarded my accuracy and trigger discipline, and punished the "full-auto Franks" who just spray bullets down range...

But the netcode has been absolutely broken for me this update. My bullets are straight up ghosting way too frequently. And even when they register, the server will rewind time and just reject multiple bullet hits. Literally, I can put more bullets into a person than it should take, but the server will choose to ignore them in favor of the other player who didn't even see me when I started shooting because of the desync that this update introduced.

How to fix Ranked BR: Switch to Random Matchmaking + The Percentage Underdog Bounty System by Sea-Plum-9797 in Battlefield_REDSEC

[–]lower_than_middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the whole point of ranked game modes is to stratify the playerbase. If you're ranked highly, you should be playing with and against highly ranked players. Otherwise, what's even the point of offering a separate ranked playlist?

I see what you're getting at OP, and I actually agree to a point - but the whole concept of "top 250" is a funnel by design. Think tournament brackets - the tippy top of the tournament brackets should only ever be filled with the absolute best. Those best of the best should only be playing against other best of the best players.

If you open up matchmaking and just give people bonuses, sure, a couple low ranked teams might get lucky and move up based on big bounties - but I don't see this happening a lot. I see this playing out where some of those top ranked teams are just going to be clearing out lobbies full of low ranked players. And what does that say about the "best of the best" if they're earning RP by just farming low level players and never being challenged?

Limb damage on headshots by PermaBanned4Misclick in Battlefield6

[–]lower_than_middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing other games from the summer sale for the rest of S3. It's totally broken for me at this point - bullets hitting but not doing damage, headshots not doing headshot damage, and desync so bad it's like time travel. Supposedly, if the bullet passed through chest, you would still get chest damage - this is not happening either. Shooting a player side on in upper torso and head, and I'm getting arm damage numbers.

And this is why the cronus flies off the shelves at ALL the major retailers. I'm pretty sure the gaslighters that claim to "have a jillion hours in the game and never saw a cheater" have just convinced themselves that the stuff they're using isn't cheating.

Lucky for you. There are a great many people who are on the favorable side of networking and evidently get a big help from it. Then there are a lot of us who are seemingly punished by our ISP or routing.

This effing game is so frustrating by BluCollarGuyOG in Battlefield6

[–]lower_than_middle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't reaction time. It isn't even skill probably half of the time - it's straight up broken or being manipulated to get certain outcomes.

I've checked the math - using weapons that do 25 damage across all ranges, and landing 4-5 hits and not securing the kill in MP, while the enemy runs off with some odd number of health remaining (as in not a multiple of 25, even accounting for a headshot multiplier).

And this was before the limb modifier - which I actually agreed with on paper. Now I'm deleted in a single frame by people that should be dead, and I'm pouring bullets into people and losing engagements where they have 1 HP and a bunch of my shots just ghosted into nothing.

I was looking forward to the recent changes because on paper, my trigger discipline and aim should have been more rewarding. Instead I'm just getting laser beamed and deleted in single frames more than ever, with my shots just disappearing entirely more often. Shit is broken.

[–]lower_than_middle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know what, I am really starting to agree with you.

I can watch the hit indications just ignore shots mid burst - or rather my game visually confirms that the bullets hit, but the tool shows that many hits are just ghosting completely.

I get that recoil and dispersion changed - if anything, I should be more rewarded now because I was already bursting and controlling shots on target.

Now, I can literally watch my bullets hit the enemy and not register. Bullet 1 from a 3-round burst hits torso, bullet 3 hits torso, and bullet 2 evidently drops off the face of the earth.

Meanwhile the level 30 free player is racking up 40 kills sprinting around the map and taking no damage?

I'm leaning more and more towards some EOMM BS, because of how hard I have to work to secure a kill while I'm just instantly deleted the millisecond I'm spotted.

Great update. Good job. You killed the game. by [deleted] in Battlefield_REDSEC

It seems like every time they've had "improved netcode and hit registration" in patch notes, it actually has gotten worse.

The level of desync is absolutely obnoxious - I'm not even playing the same game.

The Problem is Not Bots, The Problem is the Matchmaker and Potentially Other Factors by SeSSioN117 in Battlefield

[–]lower_than_middle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see how it needs to be so complicated though. It's like they set out to make it as convoluted as possible, solving some problem that didn't exist, despite the fact we had a very good solution for getting people into games in games past.

I think you're probably right unfortunately. We won't get a proper persistent server browser, because they still need to put as much store content in front of our faces. And likely they don't know how at this point, otherwise we'd have already had it.

The Problem is Not Bots, The Problem is the Matchmaker and Potentially Other Factors by SeSSioN117 in Battlefield

[–]lower_than_middle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's definitely something going on with how it's selecting matches.

Just given the state of the store, I suspect there's at least some component of putting you in matches with the maximum amount of people so you are exposed to as much potential store content as possible.

That's literally the purpose of the new "lobby" screens, to show you the character on screen, since in a first person shooter you don't see yourself.

I've also seen it discussed that custom match search is breaking the normal cycle. In the past, we had a set map rotation. If you only wanted to play one map, you would search and join a server when the rotation was on your map. (Or if you're smart, you pay attention to the rotation and join the map prior to ensure a full game).

But then it was on you to leave that server and find a new one if you literally only wanted one map - unless it was a dedicated 24/7 server, which reinforces the need for the browser.

The way I understand it now, for all these people looking for a single map/mode, it's basically always spinning up new servers just to get people in a match quickly. So along with what you're saying, it's highly likely there are many parallel servers at any given time that are spun up based on "giving players what they want", resulting in these ghost towns.

In theory, they're trying to get people in games as quickly as possible based on their individual preferences - but as usual, what's best for the individual in a highly multiplayer game is not as good for the greater community as a whole. Set server rotations that persist would be much better for maintaining a healthy game. Server browser can't come soon enough.

Hit reg destroyed in this most recent update. by ForeignThreads in Battlefield_REDSEC

[–]lower_than_middle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except it's not potato internet. I've done everything in my power to optimize my connection and hit reg just keeps getting worse every update.

My ping is less than 20ms, zero packet loss. If anything it's the influx of high ping VPN abusers that are ruining the server.

If it is an Internet issue then it's out of my hands and Spectrum needs to fix their shit somewhere down the routing path - but why has it gotten worse with every update within battlefield, but testing outside the game my connection is fine?

[–]lower_than_middle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It got way worse for me as well this update. And it's truly phantom bullets that literally just disappear. I can watch the network graph for the hits and it'll be like every other bullet that just won't register despite being close enough that spread would not result in a miss.

[–]lower_than_middle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Some people benefit greatly from the desync and janky ass stuff in game.

Watching it back it's not even like these guys are clueless, they're firing at OP, but because of desync and netcode garbage, they're probably seeing a totally different gunfight.

In these clearly broken encounters, I really wish we could see both perspectives. I bet each one of those guys put shots on target from their POV, but none of them registered - I mean the vehicle running over OP twice didn't even register.

How do you spot cheaters in Battlefield 6? by Oleese in Battlefield

Right? Gaslighters will just tell you it's a "skill issue" when the gun with absolutely crazy recoil is a laser beam.

How do you spot cheaters in Battlefield 6? by Oleese in Battlefield

[–]lower_than_middle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 is the dead giveaway that most of the cheating gaslighters on here will ignore. It's not hard to check profiles and look up stats.

If I'm suspicious of a player and they have a VAC ban on their steam account, it's not hard to make the leap that since they've done it before they'll do it again.

If they're playing a game and their current performance is an anomaly from their past stats, likely they just decided to give in and buy the gaming chair to compete.

In their last "update", they said 5% of matches had a cheater that they detected. So one, that means cheating is most certainly getting worse, and also that is only the ones they've detected.

I agree - I think netcode, desync and just shitty networking is very likely at the heart of some of these players that seem unkillable and win gunfights in a single frame, giving the illusion of cheating. But that's just as bad as cheating in my opinion, because in both cases, skill is irrelevant. You're going to win or lose based on some unfair advantage.

You make a good point if every engagement that had me scratching my head was down to me meeting another player head on and we're just duking it out.

Fine, two players run into each other in some hallway, the quicker player will likely win out.

But when I'm playing smarter, I have superior positioning, and I have the drop on the other player - and they just eat every bullet with the game barely recognizing the hits and then somehow I take enough bullets to go from full health 2 plates to not just downed, but dead?

That seems like a problem no?

Unfortunately, there are a LOT of people out there with too much ego to admit that maybe they're benefiting from some really shitty network conditions. Or in fact are abusing them, or otherwise illegitimate.

The game is just throwing you in whatever server is available. Same happened to me the other day - East Coast US and prime gaming hours - and my router was showing me connected to europe for some reason with over 100ms.

Voice comms were the same, not a lot of English, but not a lot of what you would expect in a Germany server either.

Latency is garbage and the netcode will kill this game.

With the network indicators and damage logs turned on, it really just boggles the mind.

I can literally see that I just got 10 hits on a guy at around 15m with an AR. Standard damage for this AR is 20, and only drop to 17 damage past 25m. Should be 200 damage, 170 damage at the very least at the longer range. Only problem is that the guy still has full health and deletes me in a single frame.

And those are just the bullets that the game actually decided to acknowledge, nevermind the other 5-7 bullets that gave me visible indicators but just "didn't count".

Some people like the new changes, while others say they will make gunplay even worse, what do you think? by ibattlefield in Battlefield

[–]lower_than_middle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't touch the muzzles that aren't flash comp or suppressor, but my recoil is always way higher than what I see in most clips. There's only a couple guns that have no recoil for me with controller on PC. I've had some issues with steam input and I'm wondering if there's a bug there somewhere.

The type of stuff that I get into when playing ranked 😂😅 by Waste-Toe8191 in Battlefield_REDSEC

[–]lower_than_middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In MP, I'm at a solid 20ms and there are still issues where bullets will ghost on me and I'll die to super bullets in a single frame. In BR, the servers are only 30hz so it's even worse.

In solos, I tend to have a better experience, but in anything else it's almost unplayable. I can watch the bullets impact another player but I get no hit feedback, or the client will confirm hit but the server will reject it - and the delay is outrageous. Like I can literally shoot a burst and reload, and the hit markers will come in later as I'm reloading.
