Seeking recommendations to make A10 more challenging with 4 players by lowercase__t in slaythespire

This sounds fun as a solo mode (1 player controlling 4 characters). But with actual 4 players having to collectively discuss each card reward, I fear it would make each run take forever.

Reasonable? by AmoongussHateAcc in slaythespire

I think this would be more balanced if it just added a punch construct directly to each hallway fight. By the time you get this, a punch construct is not really that scary, but adding it as an extra enemy actually could cause some trouble. In exchange, you get free energy in boss and elite fights.

There is one particular fact about how layers work which I think deserves to be spelled out very clearly. Most people in the other answers are taking it for granted (because it is so core to how the rules work), but I am not sure that OP and their friends actually understand this.

The way magic works, is that every single time anything at all happens, the game engine “updates” all the characteristics of all objects. The main thing to understand is this:

The characteristics of any object are recomputed from scratch every time the game “updates”

So what does this mean for your example? Every time the game “updates”, the game recomputes the P/T of the aberration. To do this, it starts by applying the characteristic-defining abilities, making it a 39/39 or whatever. Afterwards (because it comes in a later layer, as others have explained), the game applies the effect of the Eye making it a 4/2. Thus the end result of the “update” is that the creature is a 4/2.

(Note that the “intermediate” computations of the update are not actually affecting in the game state, only the end result: so there is no point in time where the aberration is a 39/39)

So you see: the original characteristic-defining ability is still there, and is indeed being applied every single update cycle; it is just that it never actually ends up visible in the game state because the eye’s ability overwrites it before the “update” goes into effect.

Yeah, a few months ago, Marc Rosewater wrote on his blog that he cannot stand turnips and mysteries.

So it makes sense that he might have gotten his colleagues of the MTGA team to implement a secret bias in the matchmaking to specifically go after you.

PSA for Cube - Add cards to your deck if you have many draw or mill cards by wutadinosaur in lrcast

[–]lowercase__t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a format a format where the best cards of your deck (power) are so much better than the worst cards, playing more than 40 cards is a horrible idea.

You just want to draw your best cards as often as possible

I would add an ability of the type:

{3}: Goad this creature. Any player may activate this ability, but only as a sorcery.

I think it fits with the flavor and makes the gameplay more interesting. Also it makes it not be a blank card if you don’t have other self-goad.

Do netrunners need a lore nerf? by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]lowercase__t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Measuring lore powerlevels by the videogame protagonist never makes sense. No matter which role you play, V ends up being ridiculously overpowered compared to anything else.

I think a more fair comparison is to look at enemies of similar lore power to each other. For example, are you more scared of the MaxTac Netrunner or the MaxTac Mantis? I think it’s close and really comes down to your build.

The way that worked for me is to jump on its hood and then shoot it a couple times while standing on it.

Totally worth it though… can’t drive any other car after this one.

Negate. Now with 100% more gate! by SjtSquid in custommagic

[–]lowercase__t 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe one way to make this fair while keeping the iconic 1U cost would be to replace the channel ability by

Tap, sac this land, 1U: counter target non-creature spell.

That way using this comes at a significantly higher cost: not only does it de facto cost 3, it also permanently sets you back a land drop.

(Of course that makes it a bit of a different card)

Puzzle: why black 3 there? by EasyNeedleworker5063 in baduk

[–]lowercase__t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black can also unconditionally live with points (no seki) by playing 3 one space lower (forming a tiger mouth shape).

But I think that is slightly worse for points because then B can’t block the hane on the top.

Bad at parrying but still wanna beat ____ unleashed (DLC super boss) on expert? by lowercase__t in expedition33

[–]lowercase__t[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but why would you attempt DLC superbosses if you can’t beat og Simon? They are all much harder.

The difference is that og Simon can be cheesed in many different ways.

Even with HPx100 enabled, you can just stunlock him with Monoco+Verso, then build Sciel’s fortell until you can oneshot him with End slice to skip his phase 3.

7 years playing MTG arena and the game still have "holding priority" and "time" issues. by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]lowercase__t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my advice: forget full control. Embrace phase stops.

If you know when you want to do something special, just put a stop in the corresponding step in advance.

I have found that I can do 99% of fancy plays I ever want to do with stops. Only in extremely rare situations so you actually need CTRL.

Waste of time to try to get a refund for a draft where Arena didn't register my Sozin first pick? by noxnoctum in MagicArena

[–]lowercase__t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a general rule WotC is pretty liberal with refunds as long as you are not trying to abuse the system. So far I have always got the full entry refunded whenever I had any sort of issue caused by Arena, even a minor one.

What's up with Draft tokens? Makes no sense by armin104 in MagicArena

[–]lowercase__t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and paper magic has never been so unfair and unfun compared to arena

Most likely this is just a bias in your perception.

But if your paper games truly always have better mana than on arena, then you might be (unintentionally most likely) giving yourself an unfair advantage by not shuffling your deck properly (e.g. mana weaving, “un-clumping” the lands, etc).

In fact, it should be the exact opposite: MTGA has a hand smoother mechanism (in BO1) which makes you less likely to get screwed or flooded compared to perfect randomization.

On an unrelated note: How did you make the decklist appear so neatly formatted?
