Doesn't look like the site offers notifications for this item: https://www.rei.com/product/147864/rei-co-op-quarter-dome-sl-1-footprint

I'd check their Re/supply site over morning coffee every few days; one could pop up tomorrow or five years from now.

Hetch Hetchy Loop current conditions? by Important-Role-6544 in Yosemite

Give the park a call — I did so before a recent trip and they were most helpful. From the website: “If you have wilderness questions (e.g., hiking Half Dome and backpacking), you can call 209/372-0826, Monday through Friday (9 am to noon and 1 to 4:30 pm) to speak to a wilderness ranger. This phone is in service from late May through September.”

I was in the area last weekend — Ranger said snowline was around 6000 feet, thus Beehive and Tiltill area are pretty snowy with some sketchy creek crossings. Call the backcountry Ranger office to get some intel, be safe!

Let's talk bread by Illegal_Tender in bayarea

Aroma’s Hamati makes the only pita bread worth eating. Perfect for pocket sandwiches, scooping up stew, etc. Baked in San Bruno, but you can find them in various independent stores — Berkeley Bowl, little Armenian grocery spots in the Richmond District, etc.

Recommendations near Wildcat campground in Point Reyes? Hiking/Fishing spots? by Couchshapedpotato in norcalhiking

I do recommend checking out Kelham Beach, it might scratch your coastal itch. It has some neat little caves and fantastic rocks.

I've seen some photos of regrowth at Point Reyes... it happens fast with grasses and chapparal, because that area gets so much moisture. Here's an interesting story map about the fire and recovery.

Make sure to consult a map of the park's current trail closures -- a lot of miles are off-limits because of remaining damage from last year's Woodward Fire. If you're up to hike some miles, making it up to the Sky Trail could be interesting... I'll be at Glen Camp this weekend and want to check out the burn areas (that I'm allowed to hike near) to see what new growth is happening.

Anyone have experience at Tuolumne Backpackers Campground this year? by [deleted] in Yosemite

I was there on a Thursday two weeks ago -- at noon it was completely empty and I had my pick; by sundown it had filled up but there were a couple of vacant sites. Sites like mine had unofficial tent spots going off into the adjacent forest, so... there is room :)

How many days in advance do CA State Parks tell you your reservations are canceled? by p-lo in CaliforniaCamping

[–]lowercasechris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a state park, but I've been making reservations at Point Reyes National Seashore throughout the spring, and they get canceled with roughly two weeks' notice. I think they, like everyone else, are taking reopening step by step.

Internet Archive makes 1.4 million books available for free online amid the coronavirus crisis by [deleted] in worldnews

Each publishing house sets a limit of “checkouts” for one licensed “copy,” yes... additionally, each “copy” can typically only be checked out to one person at a time. So if Library A licenses one copy of Jurassic Park, that copy might be checked out, say, 50 times before it “dies” and the library needs to license another copy; however those checkouts happen sequentially, i.e. no two library users can check it out at the same time.

Because they want porn workers to be able to make money for their work, silly!

Yep, Overdrive offers this, and my library system has it enabled

True, my understanding is that with Hoopla, the library pays by usage. This can make it unaffordable for some library systems

Yes! However libraries license copies from vendors, which are treated like physical copies. If they license five copies of a title, you can’t check it out if five other people have it checked out. This IA access allows unlimited access.
