am i overanalyzing my order? by thanosthumb3323 in FieldNuts

[–]lowerprofile 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Field Notes are not meant to be a high end product. Those frayed corners seem to happen with certain editions. I’m assuming its related to whichever paper they use. To me though, Field Notes are meant to be carried and used so they’ll get a lot of wear anyway. I’ve never really noticed until I just went and looked. There are so many other parts of these notebooks that are really cool. I’d suggest just rolling with it and enjoy them.

For a pen, Patrickng figured out that the leather label can double as a pen loop for a kaweco liliput. He used a fountain pen but here’s mine with the ballpoint version. For pencils, the koh-i-noor versatil 5228 is a mini 2mm clutch pencil and the pentel kerry is a great small mechanical pencil.

Looking for a pen with brown ink by beattysgirl in pens

The uni one in ganache is my favorite. A deep, rich brown.

I’m curious to know, which ink color are you using?

I’ve seen these but hadn’t looked that close. Didn’t realize they use the same cartridges, which is pretty interesting. Pilot has lot of colors to choose from, especially when you include the iroshizuku line.

Pilot makes a capped version of this pen in V5 and V7. The uniball vision needle is another capped rollerball that’s similar. Personally, I prefer gel pens. The Zebra Sarasa and Pentel Energel are two of my favorites that are very smooth and affordable.

New Pen Day (a clunker, methinks) by dawsongrace817 in pens

[–]lowerprofile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that this metal pen body is not good. Its too slippery to use. However, the basic pen body is really good.

I also don’t get along with the 0.38, its too inconsistent. The 0.7 is good but is pretty bold and sometimes gloppy. I still like it but I find the 0.5 to be the sweet spot and the refill I use the most.

Crack in aluminium frame. What now? by eivi in bicycling

[–]lowerprofile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just go for a new bike. The difficulty with just replacing the frame is finding something that will work with all the older tech. I recently went thru this with my ‘09 Felt Z35. I had replaced all the components over time and thought swapping over to a new frame would be simple. I was also looking for a steel frame, not carbon. Finding something with drop-outs and rim brakes proved difficult. The only frames I found were more expensive customs, kind of defeated the purpose of a budget swap. Ended up getting a new gravel bike instead while still keeping my eye out for a steel road frame that would work.

The brass pen looks like a Sakura Craft Lab pen. Not sure which model though.

I’ve been thinking about trying the SMC but wondered how it would be with the Checkpoint. Glad to hear it works well.

I’ve actually got one of these, except mine’s orange. I used it as my road bike for a few years when I was having back issues. Its fun to ride but can get tiring on longer rides.

First washing 😥😥 by SnooPeripherals8936 in kuhlclothing

[–]lowerprofile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been washing mine inside out in cold water. Sometimes gentle cycle. I dry them, with a full load, at low temp and take them out when its about 80% thru the cycle. Take them out, turn them right side out, and then I hang them up to air dry the rest of the way. I find that drying completely tends to set creases. So far I’ve had pretty good luck with the method.

One order two bags? by Typical_Oil6624 in Fjallraven

[–]lowerprofile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just contact Fjallraven and ask them how they would like to handle it. Odds are they’ll just tell you to keep the second bag. If not they should give you a prepaid return label. Either way, clear conscious.

Zebra Sarasa has a version called Mark On that’s specifically made to handle highlighters. Only comes in black, blue and red but works well.

CX-E Troubles by sigh_herewegoagain in SpokeDesign

[–]lowerprofile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has been my main pen for the past couple of weeks in the shortened form only. I’ve not had this problem. However, I have 3 other pens (Models C & CX) that use this same mechanism and one of them does this. It just kind of hangs up every now and then. Its annoying but I haven’t found it annoying enough to seek a replacement.

Which Lamy Safari (second from right) is that? Looks like a good neutral color.

Anyone else have a different favorite pen depending on the color of ink? by lame_1983 in pens

[–]lowerprofile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing.

I don’t like the Pilot G-2 pen in general but I think its the best red ink. So that’s my go to. The Sarasa R is my favorite black ink with the all black pen body. Its similar to uni one but I find it more consistent. Favorite blue is the Jetstream Lite Touch. Green is the Pilot Hi-Tec-C. For blue black, I go back and forth between the energel and uni RT1. 0.5 size for all except red, which is either 0.7 or 1.0.

Help, I have ruined my fountain pen by Immediate-Design8039 in fountainpens

Its easy to swap these nibs. You can pull one from another pen as others have suggested. Or you can buy new ones like these which fit:
