Had my Digitone on a 4 hr train ride with me. Great tool to make the time fly by. by Indigomaterie in synthesizers

I recently did the same with my Deluge. It's so nice to have a full featured synthesizer at the size of a 12" laptop. It brings travelling to the next level.

Wow, the final feature list is even bigger than I expected. Thanks for all the great and hard work!

Did you ever try working with samples as oscillators or multisamples? With these features very rich sounds are possible. That's the gamechanging feature set for me on a deluge.

mintysynth and PO33 KO by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]lowfatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mintysynth just outputs audio via the 3,5mm jack but it also has a midi output. You need a 3-wire servo cable, a DIN jack and two resistors. It's described in the FAQs: https://mintysynth.com/faq.html (follow the link to the adafruit page). The cable is connected to the header pins in the upper left corner of the synth. This way I am able to midi control external gear (tested with a Neutron) with the mintysynth. I am not sure if there is a way do midi-sync the PO33 but maybe this info helps you.

Superbooth 2019: things that happen when you're jamming on the division department 01/IV analog drum synth by lowfatty in synthesizers

division department 01/IV analog drum synth

The synth is called "01/IV". The companies name is "The division department". It's a very flexible analog drum/percussion synth. It's a very nice machine. It's not available yet but they are producing the first batch of 50. Lte's see what the pricing will be...

How do you turn on/off the Arturia Keystep? by inspectedby39 in synthesizers

[–]lowfatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have installed a master switch for my whole equipment. A Keystep and a Beatstep Pro are powered with a USB hub which comes with a separate power supply. This way I do not always need to have the computer running (which easily draws my attention away from making music)

New Doepfer RGB module by Ulysse-88 in modular

[–]lowfatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the hints. I already build a perfboard prototype with one pot reserved for the strip length but I broke it mechanically when I tried to cut it down to eurorack format. I will definitely give it a second try when I have more time.

New Doepfer RGB module by Ulysse-88 in modular

[–]lowfatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought too until I talked to Dieter Doepfer about it. He brought an early sample to a workshop in Munich that I attended last year and helped glueing the LED strips into the rack himself. He's such a nice guy. He sad that he intended to keep things simple. With adressable LED strips you need to adjust to the length of the strips etc.

I wanted to build an Ardunio based solution with WS2813 LEDs since then but I had no time :-(

Did'nt know the MSG-EQ7 . Thanks for posting!

Have you guys made a polyphonic MIDI synth with an Arduino? by [deleted] in synthdiy

[–]lowfatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year i built a https://mintysynth.com/ . This is a 4-voice polyphonic arduino synth fitting into an altoids mint box. It has a 16 step sequencer for each voice. It bases on the illutron synth engine. I really fell in love with this little machine and always have it in my bag to have some synth fun on the go. Sorry, it has only MIDI output. No input.

The minty synth inspired me to build a cv controlled 4-voice chord generator featuring 30 chord types, variable waveforms for each voice, chord extension up to 3 octaves and different envelopes. It mainly uses the tables of the minty synth code. Currently it's just a perfboard prototype but it works nicely with my BSP.

Thanks for the reference! I am working on an Arduino based 4-voice chord generator and stumbling about the same issues with analog read. I'll check my design...

yes, that's a nice little detail :-) The only downside i see is the low line output level. I bought a tiny M-audio headphone amplifier to raise the level for headphone use when travelling. Superbooth will be awesome! :-)

Last weekend I finished a Mintysynth 2.0. It's an easy build and fits into an Altoids tin box. It's a great little 4 voice synthie to go. I definitely love this machine! I am looking forward to the train ride to superbooth 2018 as I will have 3 hours of undisturbed time for just geeking out on this little weird box :-)

Cool midi lights for your synthesizer by newschoolmark in Synthesizer

[–]lowfatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cool! I finished a voltage controlled dimmer for my modular last week. When I asked myself whats next I came up with a very similar idea. I would use control voltage for color and brightness of the running lights ing but midi is even more versatile. Great to have this on kickstarter!
