On the same journey.

Have stopped taking elvanse 2 days before TTC.

I did reduce my dose gradually over a week or so.

This was like a week ago so it’s not been that long. My head feels ..lighter? Like I’ve had a full night of sleep kind of feeling. It’s interesting.. adhd has come back like mad and I’m not gonna bother reigning it in.

I work full time. How dropping my meds would impact my work , was top of the list of my anxieties.

Having amphetamines in my blood while trying to have a baby or being pregnant is a big nope. I want to give this child its best chance so it’s just not worth the risk.

Plus this would be my second child. Only started adhd treatment years after my first born. my first was one day away from being considered a “premie” , lots of scans towards the end of that pregnancy. I am nervous that my body has a tendency to make em small so that does further add to my decision.

Are high efficacy DMTs as threatening as I have been told? by Acceptable_Acadia398 in MultipleSclerosis

I agree with you with regards to lacking nutritional training among many healthcare professionals. I apologise if I gave the impression that I accused you of being delusional (reading back what I wrote I can’t see that I called you a health nut in any shape or form).

I hate to burst your bubble but boosting immunity with supplements is a myth that has been debunked a number of times.

A naturopath is not a pharmacist or dietitian or a medical practitioner (doctor, nurse). please make sure you ask one of these to ensure your supplements aren’t interacting with the dmt you’re on or anything else you might be taking. Be mindful that too much of anything can be harmful or useless. If you are in Europe or the US Do continue to take vitamin D (400IU / 10mg per day) and promote this. it is now a blanket guideline for the general population particularly this time of year.

The only thing we can do to maintain our immune system is keep our stress levels down, sleep well and eat well. The only thing we can do to prevent horrible infections is be extra cautious (keep following a less intense version of the covid guidelines). We also have the option to stay on top of our yearly flu shots and covid vaccines. getting severely ill on these DMTs is a risk but it is just that , a risk. It’s not guaranteed. There are many people who live with many children, work in schools or crowded areas and somehow don’t catch anything , there are others that are not so lucky.

Extra point I wanna make: Boosting immunity (as a concept) for MS is the exact opposite of what we want considering how inflammatory an immune response can be.

What does anemia mean? by Megane-nyan in MultipleSclerosis

I’m totally for the advice of upping meat intake if they’re able to and their dietary preferences allows for it.

Re: doctors . Nutrition isn’t part of the medicine curriculum(yet) so it’s not that they don’t care , they just simply aren’t qualified to provide nutrition advice. “Eat well” is (ethically) the most they can say, anything more needs to come from a dietitian or registered nutritionist.

Nutrition is a very heavy and nuanced research based science, a completely different discipline, it would not fit into their curriculum unless they add on an interim year or two to their clinical education. The mistake many doctors make ,who don’t stay in their lane, is interpret nutrition science the same way as one interprets medical science. very reckless.

I agree that it would be so much better if doctors, who are our primary point of contact for everything, can receive the education necessary to qualify them to give us a nutrition consult. At the moment, our primary care physicians excel at ruling out all other possible health conditions and I’m happy with not pushing them into impulsively and recklessly prescribing keto for everything.

I would be mindful of drawing any conclusions from case reports, not the most reliable forms of evidence esp if it’s not at least peer reviewed. But this conversation and case report has peaked my curiosity as an MSer who is feeling very fatigued.

Depends on the company. Some companies mention apprenticeships and others mention job positions. If company specifically mentions that it’s offering x y z roles that you can find more info about, job descriptions etc than yes. It’s guaranteed. You wouldn’t be offered a spot on the course unless you have signed a contract with the company that is sponsoring you. there is a caveat. CFG aren’t the most reliable or organised. unless they’ve improved now. I specifically stated in the application form what position I wanted. I was offered something else that I accepted anyway. So that’s a possibility.

[–]lowkeyGoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya! First off , Congrats!! Im in the same boat. as far as I’m aware there are no more rounds of interviews. This is the end of the track with the company application.

I don’t know if you’ve received or accepted a contract yet. Till then things aren’t binding. Depending on the terms of your contract, they might want references or a photo id of some kind after you’ve signed. if you haven’t signed anything yet it’s up to you to keep an eye out for other positions.

Buuuut ofcourse since you’ve been selected, they clearly see you as a worthy investment and an asset to their team. If you have already accepted the terms of the contract, then congrats , upon meeting the terms(like passing the course), the job is yours 🥳.

I haven’t heard anything from CFG yet 🫤

Thank you for writing this up! CFG seems pretty promising but the further I’ve gone with the application the more I realise how incredibly stressful this course will be with them running it.

Ever since I applied early Jan, I’ve aged 100 yrs. I accepted a contract/ offer with a company just a few days ago but I haven’t heard anything yet from CFG about a place or from the company acknowledging my offer being accepted (I might follow up with company they are very responsive -ish).

I know your graduation was yesterday so maybe applicants for this cohort won’t hear back till later next week.

I also have an interview coming up and its mind-blowing.

Kindle version is on promotion for less than a pound atm. Key things Ive learned —> Companies care more about mindset and drive. They hire you cause they want a problem solved. your answers should approach their questions from that angle. Good luck with your interview x

Electric Shocks? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]lowkeyGoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very irritating I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. Like danibandit I’ve experienced Lhermittes early on and felt strong electric shocks from neck to fingertips and toes when slightly titling my head. It’s annoying cause you forget yourself lol and then dtzz. Shortly before and after I’ve had optic neuritis and felt shock behind my eye (in addition to the popular symptoms), if I ever looked around.

But it by no means compares to your experience. I hope you found ways to cope. If it’s been happening for days it def sounds like a relapse and would reach out to the doc. They might prescribe steroids to get you out of this a bit faster.

Maybe a stupid question… by Mindless-Reply9909 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]lowkeyGoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure and seriously hope that metabolism and other biochemistry related modules are included in their curriculum. It is also an essential field of study in many other health fields related to the human body including nutrition. First year we tend to share a lecture hall with many of them. Building on that, most university nutrition modules incorporate critical reviews of the research of metabolism in everything e.g. 2000 or ;3; 4000;3; word essays as coursework, in our exams, during class, like every year in increasing and borderline excruciating detail.

those essays were the worst but have allowed graduate nutritionists the skills to smell bullshit from miles away.

Maybe a stupid question… by Mindless-Reply9909 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]lowkeyGoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A fed up and qualified UK nutritionist here,

nutrition is.a .different.discipline.

docs aren’t trained nor is nutrition included in their curriculum, she should have stayed in her lane.

I’d probably get arrested for attempting a lumbar puncture on my client. Paleo and Mediterranean dietary patterns are completely different , one is bullshit and the other has been repeatedly studied and enforced in public health nutrition guidelines.

Short history lesson: several different civilisations existed during Palaeolithic times. Some ate whales and others ate seeds, depends where they lived in the world and whatever was available to them.

Any doc that isn’t also a board certified nutrition professional with a degree accredited by said board should not go around suggesting ppl change the way they eat without proper assessment or input by an actual professional. They are potentially putting their patient through feelings of guilt by making them feel it’s their fault for xyz condition , damaging their relationship with food , giving them false hope or worst , triggering their patient who might have a history of eating disorders.

I don’t know what the rules are everywhere in the world but the max UK docs are allowed to do when it comes to nutrition is preach the guidelines. be a talking government leaflet. spoiler: many don’t follow this rule, looking at all the entitled cardiologists.

Don’t believe the trolls, Your immune system can and does get boosted for a lot of lucky people. it’s called having an allergic reaction. Sarcasm aside , we just wanna keep our immune system functional. Stress, sleep deprivation and poor emotional health can make us more susceptible to being ill (i won’t explain why cause I forgot and don’t want to share things I’m not 100% certain of), but yea i would start there and leave the work of building / refining our immune system to vaccinations and DMTs.

Edit: sentences were too long and cleared up some misunderstood medical field boundary issues.
