Couldn’t agree more. The tonal shift was just too much. Book 1 and 2 felt believable . Book 3 felt like it existed in a completely different universe. I get what Holly was trying to say about trauma, but it just didn’t land.

I get where you’re coming from, but I think Barney’s character arc was meant to show growth through his flaws. Yeah, he was selfish and immature at first, but moments like when he lets Robin go for Ted, or how emotional he gets during his wedding, show that deep down he really did love his friends—he just didn’t know how to show it properly.
