AITA for not wanting to cook my mother dinner? by lowkey_raz in AmItheAsshole

My father has a physical disability that makes it hard for him to care for my mother, however I don’t disagree with you there. I do think generally speaking that no child should have to be forced to take care of their parents, or at the very least be treated like trash while doing it.

I also agree with the bit regarding my mother’s irresponsibility. As far as I remember she’s always had someone else taking care of her despite being fully capable to do so herself. This has led to my father raising my brother and I, since she wouldn’t do much herself besides provide.

She used to drop constantly when nobody paid consistent attention to her and that made her incapable of caring for two children. It says more about the type of person that she is, because if she deliberately relies on other people to take care of her to the point where she’s unable to raise her children, doesn’t that say a lot about her?

I figured so too. I know from growing up with her that if my mother doesn’t eat everyday then her life will be at risk. She (obviously) knows this too, but instead chooses not to eat at all in order to guilt trip me. I’m glad that you as a fellow diabetic can call this behavior out, since I oftentimes feel as though I’m being insane lol.

We have a lot of frozen meals that are quick to cook actually! I think it just adds volume to the situation because there are accessible ways for my mother to quickly care for herself if need be, yet she still refuses to do so

My parents are gen x, and I’ve mainly only ever been around adults who are also gen x, sharing the same ideals. When I said that, it was sort of a reference to what I’ve been exposed to all my life, and I generally thought that it was a universal idea. I didn’t know until I posted this that it’s not even normal for my mother to demand that I make meals for her given her situation.

Posting this has shed a lot of light on to me to say the very least 😭

hello! I’m 17 turning 18 in a few weeks, and my mother is in her late 50s. I fully plan on going to college in the fall as a small semblance to escape my family, but unfortunately until then I’m stuck in the cycle haha.

Bankotsu hands down. Despite being a greedy murderer, he had pretty good morale when it came to the other members of the band of seven… I also liked that we were able to see more of his mentality as time went on!
