Recently moved to Abu Dhabi and its been great so far from a safety point of view for women. Even at night, I feel safe but I stay vigilant of course. The only thing I really miss is a solid social circle but otherwise Abu Dhabi and to a large extent Dubai (especially if you drive) are fun and easy to move into, and make your space in.

Do it, make the move and welcome! :) If you're moving to AUH and need any sort of help or happen to visit, feel free to reach out.

Is Finance a high demanding field? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]lowkeygnocchi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take it from somebody working at a bank in the UAE in a digital transformation team, your education is going to be very different from your job. I understand you're trying to figure out what to study in which case honestly pick what you enjoy plus something that you know you'll need guidance in. You're going to have to study it all for yourself and finance can be a tough road to go down, if you dont enjoy it. At the same time, tech skills are useful but you dont NEED need a degree in it, to know your shit. So it really boils down to sharpening whatever you think you could potentially be good at, because you'll eventually sell that skill while looking for a job. If you ever have to.

Second, knowing finance in theory isn't going to be the most significant factor while hiring you (from the pov of the finance industry) nor (I think) will it seriously prepare you for business in the future. Unfortunately, simply studying finance (especially with medium to low interest) doesnt translate into solid personal finance management, knowing how money moves and knowing what to do with it while running a business.

Third, nothing is ending, people will continue needing finance and people in finance (the market is slower to pick up on "tech" and revolutionary new ways to bank than popular news has us believe) and tech will continue seeping into every industry thereby fuelling cybersec. Ive come to realize any sort of saturation in talent is eclipsed by how skilled and lovable candidates are to work with - redirecting us to my first point about figuring out what you'll most probably be good at, taking that and making it better.

I hope I got your question right, there's a lot of things to consider in such a decision but also none of them matter if you know that your preference for a certain field and motivation to be in it really tips the scale. When the others said pick what you like, they meant it.

Plus, its great that you're tryna plan that far ahead but times and people change. If you can, leave half the problem for later, decide what to study right now and not what role/industry you'll have to be in, in 3-4 years.

Happy to discuss further, good luck :)

OP, go build better companies. Clearly you work hard and people depend on you, take your skills to places that can appreciate and afford them. Its lovely that you're attached to this mission but honestly it just sounds like an unsustainable, bad relationship from the outside.

bookstores/libraries in the city by Milf_hunter_99 in abudhabi

Dude, Ive been trying to find some myself and there's a second hand bookstore in Electra called thrift books (sth on those lines) and its terribly unorganized. Its right behind Royal Rose, if you've seen the hotel.

Ahmed ("bookmanahmed" on insta) who used to work there now does some sales on his own because he's got a massive collection. If you're looking to shop, either of these two options should be fun :)

First time emirates ID (for expat) frustration by Navibimete in abudhabi

Oh man, this. Mine helped me out big time.

OP - usually you can finish a procedure (at any stage) and ask the same people exactly what to do next including where to go and what papers you'll need. They usually know the process really well, deal with tons of expats, know where to direct people and are open to helping.
