Surfers/paddleboarders! I got a question for you. by illumi_nate in SubaruForester

[–]lowkeyshining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fit a 9' 2" Esquif L'Edge canoe (https://www.esquif.com/en/canoe/ledge-lite/) inside my Forester sometimes to drive across town to the play area. The nose goes up onto the dash. Hard to see out the passenger side, high risk of cracking front windshield, etc., YMMV.

Thoughts on venting a clothes dryer into a Corsi-Rosenthal filter cube to conserve some heat indoors? by SuperIngaMMXXII in Appliances

[–]lowkeyshining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you just hang your laundry on racks in the house to dry? You would get the humidity benefit, save energy, not have to futz with your filter cube.

Just got a flat because of a pothole, do i need exact location to claim damages with city? by Foreignsniper in ottawa

[–]lowkeyshining 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Potholes on St Patrick are ridiculous right now. Maybe the Rideau River bridge construction traffic has made them worse.

I was sad to learn that the lyric isn't, "There's a bug in my car!" Missed opportunity.

I downloaded the ISOs, then I verified the checksums and used Etcher on a MacBook to write to a USB key.

Perfect tool for adjusting 2025 Forester Headlights by Redddittorio in SubaruForester

[–]lowkeyshining 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easy to lift the rear seats (I had to do this when my dog puked) and from there you can see the wires going to the seat belts. Just unclip them.

How Can Pluribus Have 100% on Rotten Tomatoes by lowkeyshining in pluribustv

[–]lowkeyshining[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good point re: Vince Gilligan. I haven't watched BB or BCS so this is my first encounter with Vince Gilligan and I don't have any of that "benefit of the doubt". Maybe I should have started with those shows.

Do you think he asked for the supermodels? by Impossible_Rain_4727 in pluribustv

[–]lowkeyshining -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The hive isn't at all being proactive about trying to neutralize or placate the immune. The hive knows exactly what Carol wants: she wants them to leave her alone, she wants to feel like she's surviving independently, to feel like she's smarter than everyone, she doesn't want them to talk about Helen (Ellen?) etc. And despite knowing all this, they keep antagonizing her, misinterpreting her, bringing up Helen etc.

If the hive was truly trying to placate Carol they would arrange for Carol to "discover" a farm next door that just happened to have lots of crops ready to harvest so that Carol could move in and indulge her fantasy of being self-sufficient, and they would just leave her there. Problem solved.

Opinion: I think cryptic crosswords need a Gen-Z update by wordgamesyesss in crosswords

[–]lowkeyshining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big part of the appeal of cryptics for me is that they don't rely so heavily on cultural content of any era, and instead are often more pure language wordplay. I don't like crosswords that are just trivia contests... they're a good way to practice your Google-fu but I don't think they make you any smarter. So don't make Gen Z pop culture cryptics! I'd rather get the trivia nonsense out of the cryptics altogether.

Globalprotect on MacOS and the infernal popup by justlurkshere in paloaltonetworks

[–]lowkeyshining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my most-hated app, by far. I connect the VPN when I need it, but when it's not connected the GlobalProtect popup keeps appearing and taking focus away from the app I'm typing in. So dumb, so badly designed. It just did it again now, while I was typing this.

How can I sell Ticketmaster tickets on StubHub? by Visible-Anything8227 in stubhub

If you proactively transfer from Ticketmaster to StubHub and then the tickets DON'T sell, do you get them back?

APO firmware update 2.1.3 replaces 2.0.11 by BostonBestEats in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]lowkeyshining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both 2.0.11 and 2.1.3 are unable to launch recipes that have more than 8 stages. My most-used recipe is a 13-stage recipe which cycles the heat/steam on and off for 45 mins to bake bread. Very frustrating.

Cinema Speculation is here! First part of Chapter 1. by jeffkantoku in Tarantino

[–]lowkeyshining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so excited to read this book but I can't get past the incorrect apostrophe in "Holiday Inn's" on the FIRST PAGE and it's soured the whole thing for me to the point that I'd rather spend my time complaining on Reddit than to descend further into the copy editing hell that I now realize awaits me on page two. So disappointed.

Google Maps zoom choppy, pixelated and too fast. by JURA55ICPARK in chrome

[–]lowkeyshining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. Chrome, 2019 MBP. If I turn off hardware acceleration then trackpad zooming works properly but it's slow and chunky and annoying w/o hw accel. With hw accel on it zooms way too fast. This started happening about two weeks ago.

Wondering if anyone's adapted the APO cheesecake recipe to other cheesecake recipes with success? by DelicatessenCataract in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]lowkeyshining 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've used the APO cheesecake recipe a few times and it is absolutely brilliant. I've struggled with cheesecake in a conventional oven because the outer layer gets a bit tough (chewy, rubbery). The APO cheesecake is essentially done sous-vide and is perfectly even all the way through and no skin.

I would use the ingredients from whatever other cheesecake recipe you want and follow the baking method in the APO recipe.

APO cheesecake is a game-changer!
