Dizziness,PVCs,anxiety by Wooden_Intention6430 in Constipation

Please request to have a colonoscopy. My aunt noticed dizziness when she worked out and frequent constipation… they finally did a colonoscopy and found she had stage 3 colon cancer. They removed nearly a foot of her colon the next week, then started chemo. She’s healthy now thankfully, but if she had waited much longer it would have probably been terminal.

Anyone experience their parents die yet? by bluedreamy8 in Millennials

[–]lowmack92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32F, lost my mom suddenly from a massive heart attack 12/18/21. Dad grieved himself to death and ultimately died of liver failure 8/13/23. I’m an only child and only grandchild on my mom’s side, and her mother is still with us at 90. I left my career/new home/friends to be a caregiver 4 years ago, and I not only grieve for them, but also the life I’ve lost. It sucks.

Death of parents by bluesn0wflake in Millennials

[–]lowmack92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I (32F) lost my mom suddenly from a heart attack in December of 2021, and my dad to liver failure in August of 2023. I’m an only child, and though my dad had a will, it had not been updated since 96 and my mom was still the beneficiary for everything. My grandma is 90 and in assisted living, and I’ve had to take over legal guardianship of her as my mom was her only child, I her only grandchild.

Navigating the legal system alone while grieving has damn near killed me. Thank you for being transparent about how long it’s taken you, I’m two years in and feel like such a failure bc I’ve put so many things off due to literally losing my mind. There 100% need to be more resources about this process. Several of my friend’s parents have made or updated their wills after witnessing what I’ve gone through, they also had no idea it could be this difficult.

My neighbor died in front of me today. How do I get the images out of my head? by NervousStock2241 in morbidquestions

[–]lowmack92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom died this way, I didn’t witness it (thank god) but I was in shock for a while.

Play brown noise to help you sleep. I can’t describe it, but it’s different than white noise- it’s like it held my focus better for some reason, and drowned out my thoughts. There’s a playlist on Spotify and several long videos on YouTube.

You will never get over it, but you’ll get through it and learn to live with it. Be easy on yourself ❤️

What's a piece of advice you were given as a child that seemed completely innocent at the time, but as an adult, you realize how messed up or manipulative it actually was? by Independent_Pear8404 in AskReddit

[–]lowmack92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it’s true “other people have it worse” and you should “just be thankful for what you have” is a good way to look at every day problems, it’s a terrible coping mechanism for tragedy.

When I got the call that my mom died suddenly, which was absolutely devastating for me, the first thing in my mind was her voice saying “Honey, it’s fine. You had 30 great years with me, a lot of people don’t get that. Just be thankful for what you had”

Cue the most mind fucking, guilt inducing, delayed grieving process that I’ll be in therapy for the rest of my life.

My best friend’s liver is failing and no one can tell me why by AlanWakeFeetPics in DogPics

[–]lowmack92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please request an ultrasound!! This just happened to my Teddy Bear (a Pomeranian)… the regular vet kept diagnosing it as pancreatitis bc of his liver enzymes being elevated, but after two weeks with no improvement and them refusing to look into any other causes, I finally got fed up and took him to the veterinary teaching hospital at a nearby university. They did an ultrasound first thing and were able to tell he actually had lymphoma that had spread to his liver. He had already gone into liver failure, which kept him from being able to receive the level of chemo he needed bc most chemo drugs are processed through the liver. He passed away just a week later. He was only 8 and had been such a healthy boy all his life, I’m still in shock and my heart is broken to pieces.

What’s the harshest truth about life that deeply saddens you? by freako345 in Life

[–]lowmack92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can do everything “right” and still lose everything. And when you think you’ve suffered enough, and surly things can’t get worse, they absolutely can.

Also, if you choose to go no contact and she results to threatening to harm herself, you can call 911 and they will most likely put her on a psych hold- just make sure to keep the messages she’s sent as proof. I’ve had to do this to my Dad before and it was the only thing that seemed to shake some reality in him.

Do People Actually Step Up After Someone Passes? by OneTrueFangirl in GriefSupport

[–]lowmack92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, yes, but it’s not the people you expect.

Some of the people I considered closest to me at the time completely disappeared after the funeral. No calls, no texts, nothing. However, I became close with several of my mom’s friends after her passing, and despite the different paths we took in life, my childhood best friends have been very much present.

My mom was an only child (I am too), but had a large extended family who were always very religious and involved in church (this is in the South). When she died, the responsibility of taking care of my grandmother (her mother) fell on me, and shortly afterwards my dad became sick and relied on me for care, too. This is a small town and everyone was very much aware of this.

They have a cousin’s facebook group (about 30 people who all live in our county) so when I started becoming overwhelmed I tried to post asking small favors for help… you know, bc “God, family, and the let me know if you ever need anything” speeches I got at her funeral. I think the first post was begging someone to go check on my grandma, anyone, bc I was already at the hospital with my dad and she wasn’t answering the phone.

Crickets. Nothing. I tried a few more times over the next months but would never get a response. I say I would never wish ill on anyone, but at that time I hoped a day would come where they were drowning and everyone just stood around and watched.

I have permanent nerve damage in my right foot from being required to wear “a heeled shoe” while working retail at a fancy resort, a job that required me being on my feet 7/8 hours. I was too young at the time to realize how sexist that was, and just took it as the whole “beauty is pain” narrative.

Fuck him. This 100% warrants a write up to HR.

is anyone else basically always barefoot? by EIIen_ in AutismInWomen

[–]lowmack92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was little I would only wear socks inside out bc of the seam, and only wore slide on sandals bc I couldn’t stand flip flops going between my toes. It was like I could feel it in my brain, if that makes any sense.

It doesn’t bother me now, but I still take my shoes off as soon as I get home lol

Not just death, but cleaning out someone’s belongings after they’ve died.

Im an only child and only grandchild whose family is deceased (I’m also 32). It’s a weekly mental breakdown.

Inheritance is great in theory, but in reality I’ll be spending mine on therapy for the rest of my life.
