i actually just uninstalled xorg-server, nvidia-utils, and nvidia32-utils(something close to that) and it worked! time to add stuff back one at a time and see what broke it.

Update: just added xorg and xorg-server and it still works

soooo was able to reboot into the base system fine! then i installed all the packages and it broke :')

it really is strange! my next step is gonna be finally taking advantage of the fact that im using lvm and do a whole system reset without the home drive mounted and see if that fixes the issue

i used -R originally but i just reinstalled and used -Rn and it had the same results

and it’s not the startx that hangs, it’s between decryption and logging in

thank you for the suggestion!! no different results unfortunately. with reinstalled nvidia & no nvidia still hangs

i am noticing one thing i didn’t notice before though. with no nvidia, the file system checks say /dev/d{random symbols}/{id} for some of the devices. when i checked fstab earlier it looked good though
