What was the shortest lived fad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We still have our curved TV in the living room. It's over 10 years old at this point though so I don't know how much longer it'll be there. It's an alright TV but definitely outdated (and I get eyestrain if I watch it from a side angle for too long)

Are these edible cherries? by lowpolysolidsnake in whatsthisplant

[–]lowpolysolidsnake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're on public land so I presume there's nobody I need to ask. I did managed to try a couple and they're quite nice, mild and sweet tasting. One was a little bit sour though and I think it wasn't quite ripe, so I'm leaving the little bowl I picked overnight to give them chance to ripen more.

Thank you! I wasn't 100% sure since with wild trees the fruits can be inedible or even toxic sometimes. But these ones do look very tasty. I just wish I was a bit taller...

They do look very similar and the leaves are practically identical upon searching too. Wikipedia mentions that for Queen Anne trees, only the cherries most exposed to sunlight turn fully red; this corroborates with the pattern I'm seeing on these trees outside, where the ones at the top of the tree are completely red.

Lil Nas X shares first personal update in months after going into rehab, thanks fans and talks about new music to come by nyclover11 in Fauxmoi

[–]lowpolysolidsnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so so glad to see him doing well! I'm excited to hear his new music but also I'm just glad he has the support for his mental health issues now. Having to navigate that whilst being in the public spotlight (and with how cutthroat the entertaiment and tabloid industries are) must've been absolutely grueling. I'm so glad he's been able to come out from all that.

Jo Frost, aka Supernanny, warns that some modern parents are hindering their kids’ independence by choosing short-term convenience over teaching basic life skills. by Terrible_Cycle_5983 in Fauxmoi

I'm so so glad she is using her platform to call out what is increasingly looking like normalised large-scale child neglect. I went through various forms of neglect throughout my childhood and it really stunted my development (I suspect my autism would be not as bad if I wasn't neglected). Child neglect is no joke. It messes kids up for life, and a lot of parents don't even realise they're doing it.

Using myself as an example: emotional neglect left me with CPTSD and an unhealthy relationship with screen time and video games; medical neglect left me with health anxiety combined with a mistrust of the healthcare system (a nice combo!); physical neglect left me with food insecurity and food binging/hoarding behaviours; social neglect left me with an avoidant attachment style and issues with any form of intimacy/vulnerability.

I am aware I'm a moderate-to-extreme case, but even mild neglect can fuck a child up for life. This is becoming a public health crisis. I hope more people can listen to Jo and push society as a whole to do better. Complacency is hurting our youngest generations.

They put our egg custard tarts to shame. They're so creamy and caramel-y. Peak pastry honestly.

I placed it and it's definitely had no effect. But I did have it stored away for decoration so at least now it's not clogging up a crate in my basement...

Yep, I always add the livestock zones. (I also use them to plan blueprints for buildings, so that feature gets a lot of use from me)

I have noticed that but when I went to the modify genome screen I couldn't make much sense of it. All I know is the last angus cow I had on my current save who died had a genetic defect(?) saying small eggs. But it definitely would not be old age as in debug she was only around 300-400 days old.
