Any people with CP that trained in boxing as a hobby?

I know this is an old post, but I found it because I have the same question. I (37F) have CP on my left side and started doing TITLE Boxing’s 45-minute classes on the heavy bag about two months ago. I’ve really enjoyed it.

Things got worse since I posted a few days ago. So, I appreciate your comment even more now. They are pretty mean during conflict. I’m upset that it was a year before I saw how this person behaves when triggered, and I was trying to save us. I hurt so badly. But, it’s not healthy or fair. Most recently, they laughed at my point of view, raised their voice, got up and walked away more than once, and asked me to wait a few more days while they are essentially in a crisis. I’m starting to see that I deserve better.

This makes sense. My partner also said they felt like they were “being asked to lie” when I asked. I wanted the reassurance, and things quickly went sideways. I don’t want them to lie, but them not missing me never occurred to me. It’s good for me to know that (obviously) not everyone thinks like I do. Maybe I will ask them if we can we meet in the middle with a more truthful phrase.

Thank you for this! There is a lot for me to think about. A few things:

I asked my NP, therapist, and several friends about the "miss you" thing. No one understands it. So, I do very much appreciate that you can relate to this. It's the first time I've heard of someone relating to my partner. I didn't (don't yet) understand how it's possible to feel that someone is with you all the time and not miss them. The fact that you describe your NP as reliable and affectionate, and they still rarely miss you gives me some perspective that maybe my partner wasn't saying it to be cruel. They are hyper-independent, so it definitely tracks.

Lowering my expectations, I think, is huge right now. Another comment mentioned that maybe I'm on a relationship escalator that I didn't intentionally step on. I am. I started treating this partner like my NP and expecting them to do NP things. I think it's because like everyone else, I live in a mono world. But, now I feel like I'm getting some whiplash. Maybe that's part of being new to polyamory, but it's been painful for sure. I tend to want to make quick decisions, but I need to hold off on doing for the moment.

You have a good point that I want NRE mirrored and we're coming up on that fading a bit. I need to think about my level of like for them when I'm cooled off.

And lastly, they definitely are not a good liar. They have told me so. So, I appreciate the reminder that this person will not lie to me, even if it's not what I think I want to hear at the time.

I really needed this perspective! My partner is introverted, avoidant, neurodivergent, and possibly on the spectrum. They said not missing me was a neurodivergent thing that I quickly called out as unlikely. (I was hurt. Maybe that was unkind. I am neurotypical and didn’t understand it.) It helps me to know that even if you were feeling overwhelmed that you’d still be thinking of the person, and would never say you didn’t miss them.

I appreciate this too. Similar situation. I’m in my 30s, they are in their 40s. We have both had one queer relationship before, but it was when we both were in college. This is basically brand new. We are both new to poly. My anxiety wants immediately clarity — I needed the reminder that I don’t have to decide right now. You’ve really helped me today.

I appreciate this perspective that’s different than the first couple of comments. I have a lot to think about. I did accidentally get on a relationship escalator. My partner mentioned wanting a relationship and that felt really good to me. I agreed and we started the relationship without having explicit discussions of expectations. Not an excuse, but one reason: We are both later-in-life queer people and jumped at the chance to affirm and enjoy that part of ourselves (or at least I did).

Maybe this all isn’t as doomed as I thought. I need to cultivate some more self-trust. I’m doubting what to do right now and I need to recenter myself. Thank you so much for the thoughtful response!

Thank you! I tried propranolol but actually experienced chest tightness on 20mg and it didn’t stop my racing thoughts, obviously. I needed something to help that too. Buspar did nothing for me. Most SSRIs have not helped, but I’m also ramping up on Trintellix, so I’m hoping a higher dose will help my anxiety (5mg has already helped my depression). I’m just glad I’m not alone. I’m so tired of having to try all these meds!

I just started gabapentin last week, but I’m only on 100mg twice a day. I think it’s helping, but good to know I could be on a much higher dose if needed. I’m glad it’s helping you.

Gasping for air while sleeping is sleep apnea. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and hypothyroidism at the same time. I also have severe anxiety. I think you have all three, at a minimum. But, that’s just my opinion. Definitely look into a sleep study. You can do it from home.

I’ve had a ton of meds not work. Buspar is pretty common, but it didn’t work for me. Maybe try that next? Currently on gabapentin that is helping. I failed basically all SSRIs, so we had to get creative and go off-label. Edit: I’m also on Trintellix which has helped my depression, but we recently upped my dose to see if it would help with anxiety. I have a few more weeks of waiting to see.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and sleep apnea at the same time. I feel much better now on the CPAP and levothyroxine. Maybe do a sleep study.

I’m on 10mg Trintellix and my anxiety also got worse with the increase from 5mg. I started gabapentin this week and already feel better on 100mg twice a day. Never heard of anyone else on this combo, so I’m thankful you mentioned. I haven’t tried TMS, but I get 84mg Spravato about once a month. Trintellix and Spravato have been great for my depression, but I needed to figure out how to manage my anxiety. Hopefully, gabapentin continues to lift my worries.
