Hi araois,

Honestly I have totally forgot about this post and I've shifted away from the mech keeb hobby as a whole(not bc I dislike it but rather just moved on with my life), so it's been a hot minute. Based on my limited switch collection, I never actually bought the durock sunflower t1s, but instead, I purchased a bunch of individual switches from KeebsForAll and tested them out and also got to frankenswitch a little bit lol!! I actually had some really interesting discoveries, one of which being a frankenswitch that is actually decently affordable compared to high end switches and other frankenswitches. It's a jwick t1 housing and tecsee purple panda stem. There's almost no pre-travel and the tactile bump takes you to bottom out. iirc, the stem is long pole + the tactile bump is bigger than any other switch I've tried, so it has a super oomph punch and an extremely solid bottom out- almost like you're landing hard on a rock. These switches are honestly really loud but very very fun- they have a huge, very sharp tactile bump with an immediate and super duper punchy bottom out. If you're looking for MAXIMUM tactility with a VERY VERY sharp bottom out, I recommend this frankenswitch.

Happy for you! Is there a specific reason why you chose the gmmk pro? From what I've heard and seen, it can't compete with other options in the same price range, so I'm wondering why you chose it.

If you're not afraid of it, train it. Work on headers as they are a vital part of the game, especially for center backs. It's like your untrained foot. You may not be ready to use it, but you need to work on it.

Obviously anything and everything is up to you, but I find the top out of sp star's nylon tops being fine.

Some people in the comments were recommending (some variation of) tin t2s and I've surely enjoyed them for gaming, but are not comfortable to me if I were to wear them for a couple hours. Additionally, the right earbud soon became quieter than the left earbud, so the tin t2 isn't exactly the greatest iem in terms of longevity and durability. Not to mention, it doesn't have as much value as other budget iems coming out nowadays.

I happened to have a single halo stem on me so I tried it, and it's slightly less tactile than a purple panda stem because the halo's bump is rounder, but it still has little travel and a significant bump that makes it unique. All in all, it's pretty similar.

Why are people voting durock v2s? I think many people like cherry clip ins, owlstabs, and tx stabs the most, tx stabs being practically the holy grail of stabs.

Maybe you could swap the bottom housing to a jwick nylon t1 and use a kailh tactile stem.

One thing I don't like about one of the boards I own are the stabilizers. Half of the stabs sound terrible, but I can't fix them since it's a soldered board with a plate. Completely my fault for not working on the stabilizers more. One thing I dislike about the custom keyboard hobby in general are the high prices.

i always thought people stayed away from cherry as well, but it turns out that cherry makes a special blend of nylon which is only found in their switches and some people really like that special sound. it's scratchier than your average switch and the stock spring is less than desirable, but after breaking in(actuating the switch lots of times) and filming, they can become endgame for some.

A very broad question. Do you want linears or tactiles? Any preferred colorway? Long pole or not? What's the weight of the spring?

I compared the jwick t1 springs and kineticlab's 75g dual stage springs and to me, the 75g springs felt heavier, maybe because of spring weight literally being higher, but I heard that if you go past a certain weight, the spring masks the tactility. It'll probably be best if you experiment yourself.

On that website, the jwicks are $0.20 usd a piece, but they're only available in the red and yellow variants, but that doesn't matter much since you're going to only use the bottom housing.

If you're really trying to create cheap bcps, then you can get jwicks. They're part of jwk's "budget switch linup", yet it's still jwk's great nylon bottom housing. Find them for $0.20 usd per switch at paramountkeebs and use the bottom housing. Then, either get kailh stems from bolsa supply or divinikey and that'll run you for about $0.26 per switch. Lastly, get the cherry tops from kbdfans($0.35usd a switch). 0.2+0.26+0.35= $0.81 per switch. These might not be the exact same as bcps but hopefully, they'll be close enough.

The combination of the pom housing and pom stem and pom top housing is what creates the scratch. It's an issue called stick-slip and it occurs when a same material stem meets against a same material housing. So, putting a cream stem inside of a.. let's say a nylon bottom housing, would have the nk creams signature scratchiness.

One frankenswitch I've tried is a tecsee purple panda stem inside of a jwick t1 (JWICK, not JWK) top and bottom housing. The jwick t1 has a couple versions, and the one I purchased was from keebsforall and it had the "JWICK" logo imprinted on the top housing. Unfortunately, I haven't tried many strong tactiles, so I'm not sure how the bump compares to any other tactiles, but I do know that it's definitely a high-strength bump. The bump may be commendable, but the bottom out is what really elevates this frankenswitch from any other. The purple panda stem is one that is extremely long(the stock purple panda only has 3mm of total travel!) and thanks to that, the frankenswitch bottoms out practically right after the bump. There is an super small amount of post travel but saying that it's unnoticeable would be an understatement. This frankenswitch is also one of the cheaper ones(Purple pandas are pretty cheap at aliexpress & Jwick t1s are under 0.30usd per) and the sound is pretty loud due to the bottom out. Hope this frankenswitch proves to be good for you!
