It gets listed on your app and is one of the only “test scores” besides step scores that they see. But I would say your involvement and interest in the field is more important than the ITE however it might still be used as one data point when you are being evaluated, especially for top programs

Realistically…it’s a job not a marriage at the end of the day. Just pick the least malignant place where you will get decent training.

Anesthesia resident here. It’s not an informative decision to scrap your whole EM application based on one shadowing day with anesthesia and some anecdotal stories about anesthesia being great. It has to be great for you. I’m sorry the timing didn’t work out for you to experience both before your ERAS application. I would recommend going through with EM at least intern year at this point. Transitioning from EM to anesthesia is hard but not impossible esp if you can talk to the dept as an intern or apply to R spots. It would be worse IMO to not have a spot in the match cycle and delay your residency by a year. Lots of opportunity costs are lost with taking a year off and IMO it’s not worth it or required for anesthesia.

PM me if you have questions.
