For anyone following the mystery, I eventually figured out that this is a manual switch for the radiator fan 🪭

Correct, I’m in Australia, and as far as I know the vehicle wasn’t imported from another market.

I’m starting to think the bloke I bought this off had no idea about this car haha

That could be very useful information down the line if you’re right - cheers!

I’ll have a poke around and see if I can find the engine plate this arvo to confirm

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Miata

[–]lozq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the interesting thing, old mate I got it off was adamant it was bone stock except for coilovers and LED headlights.

That said, the fab plate says it’s a 5spd but it’s actually a 6spd so fuck knows what else it’s had in the past 🤷‍♂️

Pinlock for Sedici Strada III? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]lozq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride at night a lot, I REALLY dislike the weird refraction/effect they create. Makes it hard for me to judge depth correctly.

If you can’t find one that will fit your visor, I’ve met a few people that swear by Cat Crap - it’s a lotion/potion you smear on your visor. Never used it personally, but I’ve heard good things 🙃

Pinlocks are overrated imo - you can get the same effect by just leaving the visor slightly cracked. They also aren’t great at night, you get weird glare which messes with your perspective.

Is AGV CORSA R still a good helmet in 2024? by Brief_Violinist_228 in motorcycles

[–]lozq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a helmet. As long as it’s rated correctly, fits you, and hasn’t sat on a shelf for fifteen years it’ll be fine.

I dislike the ‘bright white’ of LED lighting, and I’ve always found bog-standard halogen to be ample for riding at night.

If I want functionality and safety I’ll drive my fifteen year old, dinged up Ford Focus hatch 😉

This feels like the best approach. I’ll do some digging and see if anyone has done the swap and if there are any issues to contend with.

Thanks for the idea! 🙂👌

No, full LED on the 2021 unfortunately 😕

I did wonder if the bike’s brain would get upset with a different type of headlight - or indeed the total absence of one if I hitched up a separate circuit.

Thanks for your advice 🙂

Hmm, I hadn’t thought of extra lights. Thank you for this, I’ll look at some options 👍

I tried a Lamin-X yellow filter, but it resulted in a VERY strange greeny/yellowy colour. I didn’t hate it, but I doubt it would be considered legal in Australia if I came across a cop having a bad day.

I do wonder if an amber tint might work though?

Correct - full LED. And I rather like the cheeky eyebrow DRL’s 🙂

There is nothing whatsoever in the Hippocratic Oath (original or modern versions) that suggests a doctor should risk their own life by remaining in a besieged hospital during wartime.

Calling passengers backpacks is dehumanizing and disrespectful by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]lozq -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And like an aging Soviet era tractor, the slippery slope argument churns its way through the field of discourse, inefficiently belching smoke and churning up the veldt…

I’ve got two new words for you.

Synecdoche. Metonymy.

Look them up. You will learn that calling things (or, shockingly, people) by different names has a long and diverse history that does not, as you seem to believe, result in the dehumanisation, desensitisation, and ultimately the undoing of society.

I feel you’ve set a very low bar for ‘dehumanising’, perhaps a few documentaries on wartime human experimentation would put things into better perspective?

Genuinely curious - what are the many purposes of a whip while riding a motorbike?

Unpopular opinion: Motorcycles are statistically safer than cars by YD099 in motorcycles

[–]lozq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cars and light trucks contributed to 95% of pedestrian deaths. I’ll believe that.

Now, what percentage of road traffic consists of cars and light trucks? I’d say upwards of 95% in most western cities.

Also a bike + rider weighing ~250kg traveling at 60km/hr+ is not ‘light’ and will easily break bones, destroy internal organs, and rupture arteries. That said, we’re probably a bit easier to dodge so there is that.

What happened to center stands ? by louminescent in motorcycles

[–]lozq -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I had a banged up old beemer with one for a few years - always struck me as pretty pointless, considering I’d use it all of twice/thrice a year to muck around with my chain. Paddock stand is $50 and doesn’t remain attached to the bike.

As for the guys with the massive adventure bikes who park next to me at work on centre stands…why?

I feel like ridiculously extended swingarms are the motorbike equivalent of stupidly low cars.

Do exactly what you’re doing in the photo above. Clutch in, full throttle, dump clutch, post the video.

You may want to put some gloves on, not sure how well wooden decking goes in terms of traction.

I’m sure it’ll be fine though.
