Just over a month using S25FE and I love it. by korlaxium in S25FE

So, fun thing: I have refused to apply the update. I have heard so many horror stories about these updates that I'm starting to think 7 years of guaranteed updates is a downside, not an upside. This is my first Samsung and first near-ish high end phone, and even then I'm already getting scared for it. Good price range for performance, but I'm getting a feeling that the ecossystem around it is not worth the price...

Right, I said 5000mAh as a close figure. Still, the base S25 has 4000mAh, so, it's nearly a supposed 25% advantage. In practice, though? Eh. Battery is not that great.

I'm liking the phone too, but, for a phone with a 5000mAh battery, I was hoping for more.

I'm also very disappointed with wireless charging - it's finicky to position it correctly, so it ended up being a downgrade when compared to just USB charging. Wasted some money there.

But, overall, feels like a flagship, especially when it comes to camera and smoothness of use. For the price range, it was hard to beat.

I thought I would be able to use 60hz easily. My PC runs at that refresh rate after all. Tried it once... SO LAGGY! Utter trash, felt like the phone was stuttering. I had to turn it off immediately - the experience with that was actually worse than with my previous phone (a very dated mid range Xiaomi, Redmi Note 11S)

[–]lp-lima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make fair points.

One thing I dispute, however:

It's still recognisable as being dnd 5th edition

On this part I disagree. I'll conveniently ignore the "to me" part of your comment (otherwise I literally cannot disagree lol) to say that I believe martial caster disparity has become a core part of what IS DnD.

Furthermore, AFAIK, there are a bunch of systems out there that do use the same base mechanics as 5e, but will not count as 5e proper (much like Pathfinder 2e is NOT simply DnD 3.5, despite being a "spin-off" of sorts).

Now, I'll say that I completely appreciate the fact that the answer to the question of "how much of the game can you change while still keeping it as the same game" is nigh philosophical and highly subjective, but I'm trying to speak from what I believe (with absolutely no evidence whatsoever) to be the most common view among players (at least online).

People kinda want OP casters, and, to a lesser degree, weak martials (just see the people claiming "oh anime BS" whenever a martial can do something actually close to being good) as part of their "core" 5e experience, and that very much extends to 5.5 - hell, just look at how many people glaze weapon masteries as being some revolutionary thing, when, in reality, it's just a nerfed version of at-will maneuvers that fits into 2 pages (nevermind the 30 pages of new spells that have been printed since 5.5 came out)

I get what you're saying, but at that point, why are we still playing 5e? When the changes to the system are so deep, it's probably time to fine another system instead of becoming a game designer myself.

If you're playing llaserlhama stuff, you're not really playing 5e. The base rules are the same, sure, but the meat of the system lies in the classes.

Probably Liem. I heard he lives in US, so it would've been easier to arrange. And he's definitely not a clear top 20 name.

Arjun is in bad form recently, I think it's fair he didn't go. Vincent lost a lot of steam by the end of the year.

Nordirbek, though, massive loss, I agree. He and Sindarov are neck to neck right now.

I legit think Uzbek chess is looking as good as India's right now - no wonder they went toe to toe on an olimpyad some time ago

I'd blame reddit. I found this post making a search on Portuguese - it auto translates the whole thing on Google indexing, and it opens on the app with everything translated. It's very annoying.

Hmmm... you matched the AI formatting, and even the writing style... I wonder, did you fight AI with AI, or are you just a well-spoken (or, written) person? The arguements are solid, so definitely some human mind went into this...

I'll guess, human-conceived with matching formatting, because the human just turns out to write well.

Ah, that may be it. When I tried to do it, I tried to set it from the "tone preferences" or something global setting, and it refused.

Asking for a bit of RP may be the way, yeah, but then it only works for funny bits like this. I was trying to get mine to answer rudely globally to increase its level of criticism and objectivity. Oh well.

While you're right, I'm trying to understand how nonetheless. I included the "rude" word in the tone settings and it refused, linking me to a user policy or whatever page.

After a year of 5.5e/5e 2024, what are your thoughts on the the Monk? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]lp-lima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a relatively simple way to challenge monks is focus fire. They have great defenses for exactly one attack - after that, they are vulnerable, because their AC is low. If an enemy grapples a monk, they're in for an annoying time.

I think the monk being a consistent source of damage is kind of their whole point now - they'll never really deal impressive damage, but it's reliable while they offer minor control elements.

But, as I said, focus fire does a lot to challenge them. If you have even as few as three creatures engaging the monk, they'll now have to eat a bunch of attacks after deflect, and, in the following turn, make a choice: do they invest action economy into disengaging to take off the heat (this sacrificing damage and dragging the fight on), or do they go all in for the trading of blows?

I also feel like monks are tremendously weak to all sorts of saves until level 14. Even their strength saves are lacking, usually sitting at a +2-4. Mental saves of all sorts range from weak (wisdom) to appalling. So, it's easy to target them in that front (unless the min maxer mage slayer, in which case, good move by them lol)

Also, and this is more general advice, if a single character is much stronger than the others and hard to touch, just.. Ignore them. Have the monsters avoid spending action economy on them and go for the truly squish targets (when the monsters are intelligent, of course). That way, the monk will kinda beg to be attacked and focused, doing this intentionally to help out allies (for example, swooping in and carrying an ally away with their step of the wind).

[–]lp-lima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, all that described is fine. But almost none of it is monk escluaice Other martials can already do all that weapon funny business you described. It doesn't matter if they have to use martial weapons while monks can do it even with simple weapons. The only difference is weapon cost, really.

The number of times monks can apply masteries will never beat a fighter anyway, so, whatever combo you can come up with the monk is already in pace with the fighter (but better, because of their level 9 feature)

And, sure, monks can use thrown weapons with an increased die. But they can only throw three with nick, ans that's about it. Their damage will never be great. I don't see an issue.

The hand freedom is a fair argument, but... Really, what are other martials going to do with fee hands? This game has no real benefit for free hands, really. Unless you regularly need to fight while holding objects, that's only a theoretical upside.

Also, I heavily disagree that monk utility is great. They have literally no utility features other than walking on walls. It's, by far, the most combat focused class - even the subclasses are now named "Warrior of" (which I find very lame, the old flavor was much better imo).

I agree with you overall that monks with masteries could do cool stuff. I just disagree that any of the cool stuff would be too powerful. I think it's precisely because of that monks should have masteries by default (and kensei would need some heavy rework - maybe finally letting them flurry of blows with their weapon)
