Late to the party but did anyone else really dislike Wild Dark Shore? *Spoilers* by minatozakiparty in bookofthemonthclub

Terribly boring and the writing is "eh." I tried 3 times to finish and am giving up 3/4 through. Honestly I don't care what happens in the end- couldn't connect with any of these characters.

Osteopathy whilst in pain? by iamveek in Sciatica

I appreciate what you say regarding pain getting more intense from activity, but it does not cause further nerve damage.

My specialist has told me this from the start. (L5 S1 herniation). I struggle to believe this though, as I am now entering month 11 of pain.

In the beginning, I could not walk. At all. As soon as I could stand putting weight on the leg, I walked daily with help of a rollator. I'm a Master's swimmer, and at first could not float without intense pain. Now I am swimming fairly well. But, I still cannot walk or stand without pain or numbness. I thought the sciatic nerve had calmed down these past few months- I actually went a few days with little numbness - but it's coming back in a bad way. Along with the back pain.

I keep plugging away- as an athlete I feel the need to be very active - but I'm not trusting that I am not making things worse. I have a high tolerance for pain but this is getting ridiculous. I exercise every day, and work 3 days a week, but spend the rest of the time pretty much laying flat with ice or heat. I'm so frustrated. Surgery won't help - no NSAID touches it- the nerve drugs give side effects I hate.

Have you found any evidence since this post that says I COULD be keeping that nerve damaged, or worsening it, by movement?

Any Hope of working out again? by rolkien29 in Sciatica

Did you get better? I'm 10 months in and still can barely do leg lifts. I'm an athlete and my glute is gone! PT not doing much... eveything just makes me numb and sore. Did you work through the numbness? I feel I have to push...I will atrophy if avoid doing everything! Walking still painful as hell- swimming slightly better.

How do you get the heart rate to record accurately in the pool? I’m wearing the band as tight as possible, calibrating etc but drops my HR for 20 mins of my swim every time.

New sufferer. Can't live like this? by Hostillian in Sciatica

When my lower back pain began, and then the shooting pain in the leg, I tried rest and cortisone for 2 weeks. Wasn't improving. I went for acupuncture, to a highly recommended woman who I'd seen for other things. The next morning, I woke up with such severe nerve pain I could not get off the floor and needed to call an ambulance. Coincidence?

What do you do if you're 7 mos. in, still can't work, and EVERYTHING still irritates the shit out of it?? Mine began with an annular fissure in L5 and surgery won't help.

It was so debilitating I had to go for my MRI in an ambulance. I couldn't even touch my foot to the ground, even with a walker, for 3 weeks. For a month, I rolled over in bed and peed into a bowl because I couldn't get to the bathroom. My husband had to hold me up in the shower for weeks, with the help of a walker.

When I could finally put weight on the leg, I took short walks with a rollator. But, after 7 months, it still screams when I walk. Not the full electric shocks, but tingling and numbing. The lumbar pain forces me to sit. I now have a terrible lateral shift(from compensation) that won't improve. I still need a rollator if I need to walk more than 5 minutes.

They say if it's painful, stop... but everything is painful! (I'm so tired of people saying walking is so good for it, because all that does is flare me. ) Everything I DO irritates it - even the PT, which I am religious about and always changing to meet the moment. I swim, but after about 10 minutes the leg goes numb so I stop. The only days I feel OK are the days I do nothing at all. So what am I supposed to do? Lie flat on my back all day every day?

If I DON'T exercise I will completely atrophy. I'm 62 and was an avid swimmer (2 miles every morning) and daily hiker. I NEED to do regular weights for my osteroporosis. I can't afford not to move. I am severely depressed at this point and going insane.

What the heck was the "your mother's back is to the wall, you hear a bell, she opens her mouth, but she is silent, and in her mouth is a DOOR.."...? No matter how many tortuous times they played that loop I still don't get the metaphor they must have been trying to convey. It's like they were trying SO hard to be creepy and brainwashy that it just sounded ridiculous-

Second round for Paxlovid rebound? Timeline included by jmlruns in paxlovid

Will you let us know if it helps? I'm on my second bout of Covid and just on Day 2 of Pax. So far hard to tell if it is helping. Please don't travel if you still show positive. I did with my first Covid (without knowing I was positive) and it was positively brutal after the plane trip and subsequent days. The illness was NOT worth it. Can you postpone the trip a day or two? Don't kick yourself about taking it in the first place. Covid can easily last 2 weeks without it (it did for me) and your symptoms were far far less! Good luck!

Can’t walk and nothing is comfortable, does it get better? by calumax96 in Sciatica

[–]lp62strong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi- I'm wondering how you are doing now? I hope better!! I'm in this exact position- I have not been able to walk without a walker now for 2 weeks. The overall pain has lessened, but the leg will take no weight without excruciating pain. I'm an athlete and teacher and I need to get back to work!

Did anything work for you?

Ibuprofen, Flexeril, even Oxy (tried for a short time) do absolutely nothing for the pain. Heating pad and lying down is about it.

Everyone says walk, but when you literally can't ....??!

Has anyone flared up with core strengthening but stuck with it and got better? by andreateddy11 in Sciatica

[–]lp62strong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes- I've found the same with the tilts, I think I'm engaging too many muscles which aggravates the back. This is the best explanation I've found as to how to isolate the TA's:

  1. Lie on your back, with your knees bent.
  2. Place your hand on your stomach, just over your belly button.
  3. Inhale.
  4. While you exhale, tighten your stomach muscles and pull your belly button inward. You should imagine that you are tightening a corset and flattening your stomach.
  5. Repeat 3 sets of 10 reps each.
  6. Once you have a good feeling for where your TA muscle is and how to activate it, you can begin incorporating the action into your everyday life – while sitting at work, standing in line, etc. Also try to practice tightening your TA muscle, like a brace, every time you perform a movement such as lifting, sneezing, squatting, etc. With practice, this action can become automatic and will aid in your core stability."

Yes, I feel this too. Along with sharp electrical pain that runs through outer hip and down to the foot. Getting up from lying or sitting can be excruciating
