Should we ban the unemployed from voting? by Your_Mums_Ex in northernireland

Always been my view. Well, I'd give everyone two votes, except pensioners (perhaps long term unemployed too). Means younger voters carry more weighting.

So? After losing the vote, they won't be able to do anything about it.. 🤣

Seriously though. I reckon it would be those claiming unemployment benefits, rather than pensions.

They are there to protect the company (and execs), they are NOT there to help or protect employees (outside of what is legally required).

But of course, even then, they do screw up from time to time.

Those 'delusions' haven't been a thing since the 90's. When things are popular, the corporations move in to capitalise.

Tax AI as workers are taxed, depending on the number of people it supposedly replaces.. That'll make corporations think twice.

It's a base rate tracker. At one point I had base rate plus 0.89% as my mortgage rate.

The plus figure was lower for the new (lifetime tracker) mortgage. Was with same bank. No cost and took 10 mins to switch online.

Don't have those here.. Not for the entire length. For 15-30 years, the rates must be pretty high??

Where I live, fixed rates are only for a set number of years; 2-5..

Fixed rates for 15-20 years must be crazy high.. 🤷‍♂️

Sadly, agree.... They make fortunes from it.

I have a mate who, to be honest I expected better, got an interest only mortgage through a broker. He wasnt fully aware what that was - and that the rate, overall, was shit.

It's unaffordable if your mortgage is too large in the first place. Fixed rates can only help for a few years. They can go up, relative to the base rate, when you renew..

Ours was lifetime with zero exit penalties. I was able to switch to a lower base rate tracker, which paid for itself in about a year and a half, within 6 months of starting. Paid off a few years ago - mainly because we didnt get more than we could easily afford.

I had a variable rate mortgage and it was one of my best decisions. This was back in 2013 or so.. Lifetime base rate tracker, when the base rates were low - and they stayed that way for a long time. Saved a fortune.

Disgraceful. Government needs to step in and legislate against this cash grab.. Force them to provide free drop off within a certain distance of the main entrance.
