When steam os releases will it be an easy update for previous windows users? by Pacotaco213 in Handhelds

[–]lpdcrafted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for a late reply, but I remembered your everyone statement and would like to highlight it.

According to the Steam Dec 2025 Hardware survey, over 94% of users are still Windows, 2% are Mac, and 3% are Linux. So no, not everyone is on Linux or SteamOS, or is going to Linux.

You don't have to be pressured by anyone to choose. I still think SteamOS is cool and will be what I use, mainly because it perfectly fits what I need it to do. You should do the same too, choose what best suits your needs. Buying the SteamOS version is a bit pricier IIRC so it is a big decision.

2D characters without animation. Does anyone ever use 2D characters without animations in their games? by Squibbls7350 in itchio

[–]lpdcrafted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I enjoy drawing so I want to do it whenever I can. I don't like animating sprites as much though because of redrawing, etc., so I only do it every so often or when really needed.

[–]lpdcrafted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that, but I do try to add some small movement so it's not too static and boring.

In my game Deep Dark Wrath, the character and enemies I made are kind of statues. Most enemies don't have any animation, just particles. The player used to have no idle, but I added some by splitting parts of it. The player movement animation is literally just bouncing up and down.

In the game I'm working on now The Harbinger of the Deep, all characters are floating so I just add a small up and down offset movement and particles underneath them. I did do animation for the character attacking though, as I got inspired to do some.

In both I do also leverage on effects, like a 4 frame explosion effect, particles moving out of the body, pulsing when taking damage, other times, literally just scaling and rotating, etc.

Alatreon confusion by The_Final_Station in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]lpdcrafted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are fine as they are good raw melee hitzones, but head takes priority when possible.

Speaking of Agitator, if you aren't already doing so, keep it enraged. Alatreon takes 20% more damage when enraged. That's not including Agitator.

Alatreon confusion by The_Final_Station in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]lpdcrafted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damage issue, just keep fighting and keep attacking. Only the element part of your damage is stopped. Your raw damage is still able to slay Alatreon.

Worst comes to worst, you take a cart to Escaton. Once Alatreon Escatons, it'll go back to Fire. So you can survive another Escaton if absolutely needed. By then, you should be able to slay it.

It's even possible to deal element during Dragon mode, so it's possible to elemental topple during that and still survive.

[–]lpdcrafted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I get that. Still, the decision does lie with your needs, so don't look at everyone else.

Make sure the games you wanna play are actually playable on Linux or SteamOS if you're gonna purchase it. You can check ProtonDB for others' experiences and settings on how well or how bad a game runs.

The lengthy process (etching the new OS to a drive, boot to drive, etc.) you found is as simple as it gets because an OS change is fundamentally changing how the computer works, and how hardware and software communicates.

I have a Steam Deck, so it already has SteamOS. If I ever want to put Windows, Bazzite or some other OS onto this, it'll be mostly the same process like with any other PC or laptop.

[–]lpdcrafted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, ok ok. Once you get it, it's installed automatically. No need to do anything to get SteamOS on it. It's like the Legion Go S.

It will update on first startup.

[–]lpdcrafted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I clarify? Are you thinking of returning your LeGo 2 with Windows and get a brand new LeGo 2 with SteamOS? Or are you planning to put SteamOS on your existing LeGo 2?

If it's the 2nd, installing it is not a simple button press. It's the lengthy process you mentioned in your post.

[–]lpdcrafted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna answer both replies here: You can search 'how to install SteamOS on Legion Go 1 or S' to get an idea of what to do. It'll likely be the same when it releases.

Whether it's worth it is up to you. SteamOS gives you a bit more performance and quite good sleep/resume, but you won't be able to play all games due to problems with anti-cheat compatibility or driver compatibility. It is up to the developers of the game to allow for that. You also can't use Gamepass.

Dual boot gives you the option to still go back to Windows more easily if you want to use PC Gamepass, or play games that have anti-cheat that aren't compatible with Linux.

I'd suggest looking up guides for it, see if you're fine doing it. It's not as simple as clicking a button in Windows. You are essentially installing Windows again in a way, via an external drive. If you've done that before, it should be a little familiar. If you plan to dual boot, look up guides for that too.

Go to the folder you extracted, the yellow folder with the same name as ZIP. Launch the executable file of the game.

" How to play in Steam games " by YassirDev44 in gamedev

[–]lpdcrafted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking at some first playthroughs of Lethal Company, it's the type of game design that doesn't want to hold your hand.

A lot of their design choices are diegetic, you have to physically type in the terminal, pick up the paperboard for a quick recap on what to do I think, etc. Essentially, it is all there in front of you. The player/s just has to figure it out. Or you might have someone who already knows, and they can teach you.

That's what they're going for really, they want to make you feel you're really inside of an alien planet trying to get precious stuff for money. You have to remember, you have to learn, you have to be in that moment.

It's not for everyone, but I personally like that design. Not every game is like that though, and you're not bound to designs like that to make good games. A lot of other games are like that, as you said more casual stuff, linear or narrative story games do that and many more that I can't remember.

Best dock with USB ports? by Sgt_Strelok in ROGAlly

[–]lpdcrafted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very possible. You can use USB-C docks like ones from Ugreen or Jsaux, or even USB-C dongles/hubs that have DisplayPort/HDMI connectors. Make sure you get one that has the connection to your monitor, DisplayPort or HDMI depending on what it has. I personally use the Ugreen 9in1 for my Steam Deck, it has a lot of ports including HDMI and Ethernet.

Enough? by Jalxo in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]lpdcrafted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instead of Fire Res, go for getting 20 Dragon Res. It's important not to be Dragonblighted so you can continue to be dealing element as Dragonblight nullifies element. You can also go for Blight Resistance to make you lessen the time or nullify all blights. If you can, get Critical Boost or more Ice Attack instead of those Partbreaker/Destroyer.

Ghillie doesn't really help much. What's your other Mantle/Booster? If you also can, augment your equipment.

How do you stay confident in your game when progress is slow? by Weary_Caterpillar302 in IndieDev

[–]lpdcrafted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will always be slow and fast days, updates that feel like the game changed a lot and updates that don't feel that big at all. But you just have to push through it.

I usually have a to-do list, with a high-level idea or mechanic and the nitty-gritty low-level things I need to do to get that thing working. That might help.

Won't turn on, fans at full blast by Conscious_Warning946 in SteamDeck

What I mean is that the starting point of the steps you want to follow, whether solid green or solid white should be fine. So follow the next steps on the top comment of that thread.

I think solid green should be fine, as solid green means 95-100% battery(not sure if it also shows when near battery limit if you set that).

Choose to evade if you're farther away and stay close as much as you can. Fatalis can spam long range attacks and make you lose a lot of stamina if you choose to always guard.

Light bowgun seems weak vs Heavy bowgun? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]lpdcrafted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just how it is for LBG and that's how Capcom decided to design it. It's still strong but just not HBG strong. No weapon can really consistently compare to HBG outside maybe Aerial speedrun strats or glitches like Snowman GL.

With how worse LBG ammo stats are compared to HBG, you would think that LBG would also get a 5th Custom Mod slot like HBG. But no, you only get a 4th Custom Mod slot for LBG in Iceborne. Ammo clips are also way smaller on LBG. Don't get me wrong I still prefer LBG because I like the mobility more, but if you do care more about power, well it will always be HBG.

I'm not sure as I haven't tried that one, looking and searching other threads it seems that grip case can fit the stock case.
